Which Athletes Inspire YOU?

August 2, 2016 by MCM Mama 11 Comments

Once again, the Olympics are upon us. Soon many of the best athletes from the US will join other amazing athletes around the world to compete in their favorite sports. So, what better topic to talk about on Tuesdays on the Run? What is your favorite sport to watch? And which athlete are you most interested in or inspired by?

Tuesdays on the Run

I have to confess… I haven’t really followed much of what is going on this year. I know I’ll watch a few things here and there, but I don’t actually have any specific sports on my agenda. Shocking, I know.

I know I’ll make sure to catch some of the gymnastics. After all, growing up in the era of Mary Lou Retton and Bart Conner (man, I had the worst crush on him), I spent a lot of time watching the gymnastics competitions. And then there was the Magnificent 7, which included Dominque Dawes, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the White House this past spring. So, yeah, I’ll be catching at least a few minutes of the competition.

And, of course, there’ll be soccer. My son’s love of the game has led me to really enjoy watching that sport as well. In fact, I really wish that I’d tried soccer as a child (and I still occasionally consider joining an adult league, but well, I’m really not that coordinated…)

But what about track and field? I have to confess that my favorites are the sprinters. Don’t get me wrong – I’m totally impressed by the marathoners. But there’s something amazing about watching the crazy fast runners cover with such speed.

What about you? Will you be watching runners or something else? Or are you a total junkie who’ll be watching the coverage 24/7?

I have my own confession to make…I don’t really watch the Olympics. There, I said it.

El husbando loves them, so the events will be on our TV for most of the coverage and he’ll be nice enough to call me over to see things he knows I’ll find interesting.

That all said, go Puerto Rico and go Team USA!

I’ll probably watch the opening soccer games on Wednesday. I feel it’s lacking some pomp since it’s before the official start, but hey, early Olympics right?

I love all the track and field events, they are all so fast it’s amazing. I also love gymnastics, swimming, beach volleyball, basketball, etc. Summer olympics are my favorite!

I love the olympics because there is always something to watch on TV! I don’t care what sport it is – I’ll watch any olympic event. Which is good because I’m the worst at checking the schedule so usually watch random events which I’d never think to watch otherwise!

I have to know – were you both randomly at the White House together or invited for something? Sounds like quite the story. I remember and loved her!

Love the Olympics — gymnastics, swimming, diving. I watch track & field some too, but oddly enough, it’s not my passion!

I want to watch the Olympics, but I doubt there will be time. If I have time, I will for sure watch the gymnastics, those girls are my favorite!

omgggggggg MLR! I wanted to be her when I was a kid; I even had her workout gymnastics VHS tape.<3 I wold normally root my booty off for Lolo Jones, but she's been on the injured list for a bit now. I will be rootin' for Desi in the marathon, Shalane and Amy, too — but most definitely Desi.

I don’t really watch the Olympics… but then I don’t watch much TV either. I have always enjoyed watching the swimming, diving and the sprinters.
