This is one of those weeks where I totally need a weekend to recover from my weekend. And I have a crazy busy week ahead of me, so going into it exhausted pretty much guarantees it’s going to be a rough week.
Did I mention that last week I was chosen to be an Altra Ambassador again? You know I love the shoes, so I’m excited to be working with them again this year. (Yes, those are all my shoes… but not all OF my Altra shoes. #obsession)
We started our weekend with a holiday party with Beer Geek’s office. It was walking distance from our house, so I elected to wear cute boots for the walk. Yes, I’m stupid and I don’t learn from my mistakes. Also, I’m pretty sure that LLBean didn’t worry about how much beer could fit in their kids’ backpacks. Just sayin’.
Saturday morning Beer Geek and I were up early to head over to a meeting. Thanks to said meeting being held at a brewpub, I may have had a beer before noon. It was noon somewhere, right?
Then we raced home so that I could get more crickets for the gecko and Jones’ science project. Yep, that’s the life I lead – crickets are an integral part of our lives.
Next up was a tour of the White House holiday decorations. Because I’m super uptight about things like that, we got there crazy early. That’s ok, it gave us plenty of time to see the National Christmas tree and the state Christmas trees. Oh, and to time to try to make the Washington Monument grow out of our heads. As Shoo says, I’m a lopsided unicorn.
Then it was time to stand in line to get in. There were a lot of security measures (seriously, it felt like we stood in line to stand in the next line, several times over), but it was all worth it to get in and see the decorations.
And could someone please tell me when my 14 year old got that much taller than me? We were the same height, umm, yesterday…
After our tour, we hopped the metro and then stopped for dinner on the way home.
The realization that I had not yet run my #RWrunstreak mile and that we were exactly a mile from home prompted me to run home. In jeans and flats with a belly full of chili and beer. Not my smartest move ever.
Sunday I slept in until 9, which is really late for me. I was completely wiped out. But, it was a gorgeous day in Virginia (69*!), so I headed out and did a quick 3 mile run.
Then it was time for Shoo’s indoor soccer game (yes, we live in a house where soccer never ends.) The team played a well matched game, but ended up losing by one. Shoo had a great game and scored 2 of our team’s 3 goals.
Then it was off to another party. We had a lovely time chatting with lots of families from Shoo’s school and Shoo had a great time hanging with his friends, but I was completely and totally wiped by the end of the party.
I am way too old for this much socializing (and standing and walking has just taken its toll on me. I’d much rather be running.
Unlike me, Shoo came home full of energy and insisted on wearing my iFit and added another 1000 steps to my day. Crazy boy!
This week I have a shift at the library, a trip to Nava, and several conference calls. We also have an event, 2 concerts, and 2 parties. But this is the boys’ last week of school before the holidays, so we have some time to recover before the Christmas. I think I’m going to need that recovery time!
I’m linking up with Tricia, and HoHo this morning. Check out all the other awesome blogs that link up!
This time of year it seems like there is an event everyday! Looks like a fun weekend for you all.
How do you like the Altras? I’ve just heard about them. I usually run in neutral shoes (New Balance and Mizuno), but I’m curious to hear about Altras! That’s so cool that you went to see decorations at the White House.
congratulations on Altra!! so fun. And ooh, White House holiday tour, that looks awesome! How do you get tickets for that??
That white house tour had to be gorgeous! You got some really nice pics. I have fond memories of our tour when we were there for MCM. These parties are taking a toll on me as well.
Wow, what a busy week and a lot of fun! I would have loved to see you running in your jeans and flats – but you got it done! Congrats on being an Altra Ambassador again! The White House decorations look fantastic!
I could not get moving this morning when my alarm went off. I feel like I need another day to recover. Saturday was a down day, but Friday night and yesterday were busy. I’d love to see the White House decorations. I miss when they did Barney-cam and Barney would stop by the gingerbread house. All that gingerbread and one (or two) terriers.
Oh, I bet the White House decorations are just beautiful! How fun that you got to see them.
Congrats on Altra! Very cool. My weekend was almost as crazy as yours. I’m wiped, too!
I have never been in DC so would love that tour of the White House at Christmas! How fun. And you always find the best craft beers!
wow. you are busy!
How cool, I’d love to visit someday. What a great memory to create with your family. Don’t feel bad either my son is almost taller than me and he’s 11! ????
Ha! I remember the days of going to buy crickets to keep our Fire Belly Toad alive. He lived a long and healthy life. I think boys simply grow overnight! Christmas at the Whitehouse must be spectacular. I always watch the TV specials they have on decorating it. Congrats on another year of Altra. I tried a pair on just this week. Sadly they felt too flat for me. Maybe there is another model that would work. Thanks for linking with us Erika!
You crack me up running the mile home from the restaurant – now that’s dedication to the streak! Congrats on becoming an Altra Ambassador again!
Wow. That is one busy weekend. I don’t think I would have run with beer and chili in my belly. That would not have settled well !
Congrats on being selected to represent Altra again. Its always great when you’re chosen to represent a brand that you believe in.
See, there’s another reason I can’t do a run streak – we live too far away from any decent bars to run home from! Sounds like a fun week!
Haha! I’m completely wiped out from my weekend too! I had my work party Sat night, which was a ton of fun (and we were home by 1030) and then that Polar Express Run yesterday (only 3 miles). I swear I felt hung over today. That’s how tired I am. But oh so happy!
Way to keep that run streak alive, although the I may have committed if I tried that!
I did see that you will continue to be an ambassador for Altra, congratulations to you, I know how much you like their shoes and it’s great to be part of that team again. I can so relate to how busy it is this time of year! Gosh I need a vacation from my vacations too and I have 3 more coming up very soon! Thanks for linking up with us this week ma’am appreciate you!
That’s so cool that you got to tour the White House during the holidays.
wowsers! I am exhausted reading that!!!
Looks like a fun and active weekend!
How awesome to get to the White House. I can only imagine how beautiful those decorations are!
I hope you get some rest next week.
Things have finally calmed down here. Now the rest of the break should just be fun.
