10 miles to go until I hit 100 for December. 11.5 until I hit 1050 for the year.
I didn’t feel like changing to run today. I had no issues with not wanting to run. I just didn’t feel like making the effort to get ready. Unfortunately, I’d only run 19.8 miles this week and I have a goal of 20 miles a week. I seriously considered going out in my jeans and boots and “running” .2 miles, but figured if I was going to count it, I needed to at least run it. I ended up doing 3.2 miles because that got me down to 10 miles left and four days to do it.
I’ve started looking at races for next year, but we have a lot of stuff up in the air. It’s driving the planner in me crazy LOL. I’ve signed up for one half marathon so far and have three more penciled in (and a fourth that is a possibility if I’m visiting my parents at the right time.) I’ve looked at some running plans and am likely to combine Hal Higdon’s Intermediate marathon or half marathon plan with one I found in Women’s Running Magazine. Since I’m planning to run back to back halfs, I like Hal’s pace run one day, followed by the long run the next day. However, I’m not sure my body (or my family) can handle me running five days a week every week.
Now I have a favor to ask of my RBFs. I didn’t get any running gear for Christmas because Beer Geek feels those are things I should just get, not wait for a gift occasion. (Yeah, he’s a good man.) Instead, he gave me an evening yoga class for the next 10 weeks. So, now I need to “just get” the running gear I need.
What do I need? A pair of running tights. I’m looking at the Sugoi midzero. Any opinions? Also, I need a running jacket. I like the idea of a “shell” that is wind and water resistant, but light so I can layer as needed. I tried some Sugoi, a Brooks, and an Asics jacket today and they were all cut the same way – for a tall, hipless woman with long arms. Seriously. I’m shortish and smallish and the mediums barely closed around my hips and the sleeves were inches too long. Larges made me look like I was wearing my dad’s clothes. Anyone know of a brand that fits a more curvy figure? Finally, I want a pair of compression socks, partly to keep my legs warm on really cold runs, partly for the recovery aspect. Which brand are you guys loving?
Lastly (and way more important than all my rambling above), Heather at Run Faster Mommy is holding a raffle to raise money for the Ulman Cancer Fund. Go over and check out the awesome stuff and donate some money for an awesome cause. And if you donate and mention I sent you in her comments, I get extra chances. Go, now. What are you waiting for?

Other than running and a wee bit of walking, I’ve done nothing, except eat cookies and I’m pretty sure that those don’t count as a fruit or vegetable.
Great work on your miles! The yoga class sounds like a fantastic gift. As for the running gear, I can look into the jacket for you (that'd actually be work at work!). As far as recovery socks, Invigorators (on amazon) are priced pretty well, and I think they were aron's favorite of all of the brands.
What a great hubby you have! Must be all that beer. ;)I really have no advice for you regarding running gear. Personally, I think cookies should count as a fruit/veggie. There's flour (from grains), sugar (that comes from a plant), chocolate (plant based, also), and the occasional raisin, right??
Very cool that Bob Potts is on the short list – and I'm still registered for MCM 2010 (thank you deferment). York is my hometown, so I'll be a good source for travel / where to stay / logistics. I of course know nothing about running a marathon though, and you may know a thing or two about that 🙂
I'm no help with the products. My tights arent great, and the Sugoi are too short on me. My jackets is a windbreaker and its Saucony, but I'm not overly impressed. I dont have any compression socks :)Good luck with the product search! Its fun, but irritating when you get buyers remorse…
I love my sugio tights..Mt FAVORITE jacket, although not light weight I found at Nordstrom Rack it is a Nike jacket and works in rain and snow, has little cuffs to cover hands and zip pockets.. But I have LONG arms, so my advice is useless.. :)Love my bright pink recovery socks, I am wearing them while typing, calves are a little sore after 15 today.. CONGRATS on your Mileage
"Yay for goals!" Wow, I didn't have you pegged as a soccer mom…
Great work on your mileage for '09!!For running gear I am a Lululemon conver!! Function, quality, ans style which most running gear lacks IMO. I think there is one in DC?If you are looking to visit canada, the Mississauga or Ottawa marathom are good choices..
Love how goals can force you to get out there! I have a wind jacket that I pretty much love. It's from Target (so it was pretty inexpensive) and it works well for me. I'm no help otherwise!
The yoga class sounds awesome. I would love that.I just got my recovery socks, and have only used them once, but already, I like them!
Nice job getting those miles knocked off! We'll have to coordinate our MN/WI race schedules to see if we are running any of the same races in 2010 . . .I recently got a Saucony jacket that has a good fit. The one I have isn't a shell, but I imagine they make a shell that has a similar fit. Might be worth a shot.
Hello! Ugh, I hate running tights!!! I'm short and my thighs are a little chubby for my frame and running tights are always so hard to put on and I always have to roll them up. Aside from that, I find them FREEEEEZING!!!!!! I have nice ones too, nice $$$ ones! I come home with burnt red skin underneath. I always find that I'm so much warmer in non-tights. Everyone wears tights (including myself) but I jst don't get it. My fav pants are by Sporthill bc then come in petite and the zipper is on the side so it dosent dig into your ankle.I have an Asics shell vest, bright pink and I love it! Ryan has the Brooks vest and he loves it too. I got mine back in the day and only paid $35 for it!!!!! I also have Asics winter running jacket (pink ofc). Ryan has it too, he doesn't wear it as much as he doesn't get as cold as me. I love the jacket, I love the sleeves and how it has stetchy things tight around the wrists to keep u warm, it has big pockets that double as vents. The wind tries and tries but cannot get thru it. Sometimes I cook in it but I love that. I only wear it if its below 25 out. I've had it for about 3 or 4 years now and prob won't get a new one for abt 5-6 years. It was my first winter running jacket (I used to layer up big time before) so I don't know any different. Oh and the only thing I wear under it is a long sleeve tech shirt, nothing else, sometimes even a t-shirt! Its easy to wash too.
Just to clarify, ryan has an orange asics jacket, not a pink one as I made it sound. And I sweat a lot in it sometimes (over 30). I made it sound like I wear it in the kitchen when I cook dinner LOL. Good luck! Have fun!!
I'm bad about gear – I just pick up whatever happens to be on sale in Target & hope it all fits :)Add to that my "recovery" socks are the compression ones we put on our patients – I'm really no help.I've been lusting for those CWX tights though…
