Yes, it’s that time of year again. Time to recap all the running fun I’ve had this year. I’ve been doing Miss Zippy’s Year in Running post for several years now. I’ve done it in 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012, so I’m thankful that Courtney has taken it on. I write this post for myself, but I hope you enjoy reading it as well. I paired down the questions to only 5 for Friday Five 2.o with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness.
Best Race Experience: Rehoboth Half Marathon was amazing this year. It was well organized, in a great location, and a ton of my friends ran. I had a fabulous time at the race, with one of my top 10 fastest finishes and then I got to spend the rest of the morning/early afternoon drinking good beer with friends. Totally awesome.
Best new piece of gear: This year I added Altra’s Escalante to my shoe rotation. They are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on my feet! I can’t wear them for anything over a half marathon, but they are great for any race where I’m planning for speed.
Favorite picture from a run or race this year: This year I woke up on Mother’s Day to find myself highlighted on the Marine Corps Marathon page. I had never even seen this picture because my bib is hidden.
Race experience you would repeat in a heartbeat: GW Parkway. I had a near perfectly executed race this year. It was my “A” race for the spring and I hit all of my goals and then some. And a friend took my other favorite picture from the year.
If you could sum up your year in a couple of words, what would they be?
A wild ride.
This year was interesting. I had some great races (GW Parkway and Rehoboth) and some not so great races (MCM and Georgetown Half). I got to spend time with friends, travel with family, and see some cool sights. I also set my stove on fire and spilled soup in my computer (thankfully both are still working.)
I’m looking forward to 2018. I’m a #Rocknblog ambassador again this year and expect to continue with Ragnar Relay as well, so I should have some fun racecations coming up this year. I also have a few other fun things in the works that I’ll hopefully be talking about soon. But the big news for 2018 is that MCM Mama Runs turns 10! I’m pretty sure that there will have to be some sort of big celebration for that!
How was your year? Share one of the highlights of your year with me.
That is a great pic from MCM. I am sure that was quite a surprise seeing that picture on their homepage. I remember a few years ago my friend texted me that followed Run Disney on Instagram and says is this you. Here they snapped a picture of me right before the finish like giving Goofy a High Five. How cool?
Everyone seems to love the GW parkway race-I am going to have to add that to my rotation one year
Those are a whole lot of awesome race photos! There is never just good, but focusing on the good always makes us feel better.
That must have been so cool to see yourself on MCM website! Okay this is sort of random, but is that the same Greenway Parkway that all those bodies were found at?
Sounds like a great race! It’s funny, I think my best run was my 6-mile training run for Vegas. I felt great, and it gave me a lot of confidence for the race.
How cool to see yourself on a race website! congrats!
I have been curious about the altra shoes for a while, they look very comfy !
As always, it has been fun following you. You just keep on going! I’m disappointed we couldn’t connect this year. Are you considering RnR Chicago?
I haven’t done my year end recap yet because I’m going to wait until the year actually ends! LOL. But picking a favorite moment is going to be tough for me. I had a lot of lows, but man, did I have a lot of highs! Should be a fun post to write!
A huge highlight for me was Grandma’s Marathon (after that scare with knee bursitis a few days prior). Of course, little did I know, that bursitis would be escalating into a full-blown staph infection a few days after the marathon LOL Seriously, though, Grandma’s was a blast, even though it got really hot and my energy tanked at mile 18. I got to run most of the race with Rachel, and we had so much fun!
How did I miss you in Rehoboth?? And holy crap, ten years?! That’s amazing. You probably need to throw a party 🙂
Congratulations on a great year! This survey is definitely one of my favorites. I keep hearing Rehobeth is great so maybe I’ll finally sign up for it in 2018! And the Parkway Classic was a really fun time – that’s me in that picture behind you.
I don’t have too many big races planned since I’m focused on my wedding, but I’m hoping to have a great experience with marathon #2 in the spring!
Awesome race pic, I love the GW parkway race and your images are one of the best I have seen, just want to wish you with a big congrats.
Loving all your race photos, but the pic from MCM is just awesome!
Congrats on a busy and great year of running and racing.
