No, I’m not talking about the election. Yes, I realize this was used as a cigarette slogan that targeted women. But, somehow, it seems to fit.
What am I talking about? The Tuesdays on the Run topic, of course! Today we want to know how you’ve change since you started blogging or maybe you’ve stayed the same. Maybe your blogging style has changed or your running goals or your work status… Join Marcia, Patty, and me as we discuss how we’ve changed.
It’s hard to believe, but I’ve been blogging for 8.5 years. I started on Blogger when I began training for my first marathon. Beer Geek was tired of hearing about my training runs, so he suggested I start a blog and even suggested the name MCM Mama. And boom, a blog was born. About as much thought went into that decision as went into my decision to run my first marathon. That is to say, not much deep thought occurred.
So much has changed since the day I hit publish on my first post. I never thought I’d continue writing past my first Marine Corps Marathon. Heck, I never thought I’d run another marathon after my first one. Yet, here I sit, 1000s of posts and 6 marathons later.
And how have I changed over the years?
My kids are no longer so little…
My races are no longer so short…
I’ve changed my shorts for running skirts…
My running base is a lot wider (and no, I’m not talking about my rear end…)
I’ve learned that half marathons are the best distance ever…
That the running blogging community is the best thing ever…
That sometimes amazing opportunities fall into your lap…
Most importantly though, I’ve learned that even if the blog went away, even if I never ran another race, I’d still have some pretty amazing memories and some incredible “imaginary” friends who are now real life friends.
And I’d still run. Because at the heart of it all, I blog because I love running and running is where it started. In that way, I haven’t changed at all.

Its pretty great to have a blog to document how much we have changed and how our running has changed over the years. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started blogging but it’s definitely been a great experience!
Awww- I love this! And it’s so true about the community. We have that even if the blog went away.
For how much we change, some part of us always stays the same! Awesome journey over the past 8.5 years!
I agree. I run in different clothes and I run longer distances but basically I still love running and have amazing virtual friends because of blogging.
What’s crazy is when I think about all the bloggers that have come and gone. And all the white running shoes there used to be.
Wow, 8.5 years! That’s amazing.
Love this topic and post! I’ll have to jump in on this link up next time. 🙂
It really is amazing how far we come in running and blogging as we learn and grow! I too went from shorts to skirts! Convert to skirt! 😉
Wow 8 1/2 years that ‘s a lot of posts! It’s been great to get to know you in person and on line.
It is amazing to see our kids grow up through our blogs too. Here’s wishing you many more years of friends, runs and adventures!
The running blogging community is the best! I’m grateful for all the wonderful runners I’ve met through blogging.
I love the imaginary friends that became real friends! It is great! You have come a long way baby!
