This weekend was crazy busy. I crammed in two separate virtual races, a soccer game, an overnight visit to Richmond, and now it’s snowing. I’m actually enjoying the snow because we had plans this morning, but canceled them when we saw the snow coming. This meant I slept in until 10 am (hence this late post) and the boys are still sleeping. I think we all needed the sleep more than the event we were going to attend.
One of the big things on my calendar was the ZOOMA Run Love Challenge. I planned to run a 10K and I wanted to beat the time I ran my last 10k training run in: 1:02 and change. Spoiler: I did not run a 10k and my 5k was one of my slowest. It was a balmy 25 degrees yesterday with not much wind and a fair amount of sun, so it actually felt good to get out. Unfortunately, I was dealing with a totally snotty cold, so breathing was challenging. Then, about a third of a mile into my run, I dodged around a group of guys hanging out smoking in front of a storefront, and wiped out. Totally landed on the same knee I’ve banged up before. Beyond the embarrassment factor, my biggest issue was how hard I hit my knee. I walked for a while and was eventually able to finish my “race” with running, but it was my slowest 5K ever that didn’t involve walking with one my children.
On the bright side: swag
On the not so bright side: my knee is pretty swollen and sore today. Remember though, this was the kickoff for ZOOMA’s races and you can use my code ERIKA16 for 10% off of Cape Cod, Annapolis, or Florida. So, make sure you sign up right away – their races are always fun! Prices go up on Cape Cod and Annapolis soon so don’t wait!!!
The rest of my weekend was busy but fun. Friday I ran the Run with Heart virtual race with Motigo (you can still participate as it goes through today.)
That run went a bit better than my other virtual race, but it was a windy feels like 13*. It was a good run except when I was running into the wind. Oy. On the bright side, I did discover that I could fit my iPhone 5 into my Skirt Sports Go the Distance tights pocket, so my phone did not shut off during the run.
I also got a chance to sample the next beer for my Cooking with Beer series: DuClaw Quick Start My Heart. I’m thinking dessert this time.
Saturday, Shoo had a futsal game. It wasn’t one of his teams’ better games, but I was glad he got to play because it had been WEEKS since we’d last played. Then it was time to jump in the car to go to Richmond. A family we are close friends with moved there this fall and their boys are the same age as ours. We headed down with a car full of middle school boys + Shoo to celebrate birthdays.
Beer Geek and I dropped all the kids at our friend’s house and convinced the dad to take one for the team, so my friend went out with us LOL. First we hit Hardywood Brewery. Check out the cool bag that they gave us when we filled two growlers. It’s insulated and designed to keep two growlers cold and keep them from breaking. Some of our best beer swag ever!
Their beer is some of my favorite beer, so it was fun to get to see the actual brewery. We did a sampler of all of their beers and ate quesadillas from a food truck.
Dairy free? Yeah totally blew that this weekend.
Then we headed to Answer Brewpub for dinner. We tried all of their beers and had a yummy Asian dinner. I was more than a little bit full by the end. Then it was back to our friends’ house for the evening. Can you guess which beers were mine?
Yesterday we started the day with a brunch at the University dining hall. I was reminded why I was so heavy in college – so many food options and it was all you can eat. On the walk over we saw this sign. I have no idea what it was for, but we apparently decided it was telling us to eat all.the.things.
I definitely ate more than I should have eaten. Then it was the usual trafficky drive up 95 back to DC. Ugh.
Today is looking like a lazy day. There’s a couple of inches of perfect running snow on the ground, but the snotty nose and the knee are hinting that maybe I should just chill today. We’ll see.
How was your weekend? Did you do any of the virtual races?
I’m linking up with HoHo and Tricia for weekly wrap and Erin for Weekend Snapshots.
So sorry about that fall… really sucks! Love that you always get in so many beers!
MANDATORY ?? Weird.
The sign was so funny. We were like, “huh?”
Ugh sorry about your knee – hope it’s not too banged up! Enjoy the lazy snowy day – rest is always a good thing 🙂
It’s not as bad as I’ve done in the past, but it is a bit sore today.
I technically did 2 virtuals as well over the past few days. So not into this snow again today but it’s always nice to sleep in a little
I needed the sleep in. This cold is just making me tired.
LOL on the “Mandatory” sign. I find that snow days make me want to EAT.ALL.THE.THINGS even if I don’t do the shoveling.
I hear you. I walked to Trader Joes to buy dinner because I had a craving…
No virtual races for me. This weekend was all about getting healthy and free of sickness.
Hope you are feeling better.
You had a busy weekend! I want some of those dairy-free quesadillas!
Yeah, they weren’t actually dairy free and I’m paying for it now.
Oh wow I hate to hear about you fall. You know just today the gym manager went out for an early morning run and fell on a root, banged up her knees an also had more scratches as she said she did the superman as she went flying through the air! I hope you did not do that! Did the guys come help you? I sure hope so!
My knee is pretty banged up. I’m sure they would have helped me but I jumped right up and ran. They did ask if I was ok. I was just glad I had on tights as it kept me from tearing up my knee.
This weather has just been brutal. Although enough snow had finally melted out our way, it was just too cold to run outside (it felt like 4 degrees!). Instead, I ran ran my virtual race on the treadmill on Saturday. And then today we’re dealing with more snow?!? I’m so over winter!
I’ve been able to run outside, mostly, but I’ve been somewhat unmotivated. RNR may be a bit of a challenge to finish.
Ok, I had to Google Futsal because I had never heard of it. I thought maybe it was a typo. My oldest played indoor soccer when he was younger and he loved it.
It’s a weird variant of indoor soccer. It teaches them how to think more on the field and requires a lot more foot skills.
Hmm…what could MANDATORY mean? Odd. I’m sorry you had a fall and on that same knee! I’m glad you were not seriously hurt. I’ve got a virtual run coming up called “The Runner Awakens” which has a cool BB8 medal. I’ll probably wait until next week. Does that beer say Strawberry Milk? Very interesting! Thanks for linking with us Erika. I hope you are feeling better already.
Well done on 2 virtual races in the same weekend, especially with the weather! I’m sorry to hear about you hurting your knee – ugh, that is the worst. I will have to live through you and your beerventures due to my non-drinking for Lent…they look so good!
Those virtual races look fun…it’s been awhile since I’ve done a virtual. I kind of forget there’s plenty of them to choose from, and they’re a great option compared to having to travel for a “real-time” race
Oh no! Wiping out while running is my biggest fear right now because Anchorage has so much ice all over the sidewalks and no snow to give us traction! I hope your knee feels better soon and you can run in that perfect running snow!
Hooray for cozy snow days to sleep in! I miss living in a 4 season climate for that very reason 🙂 And take care of your knee!! Great job on the Motigo virtual! 🙂
1) I haven’t done a virtual race since last year!
2) I’m jealous of your constant beer adventures! We don’t have much by way of breweries here in Myrtle Beach
3) I am NOT jealous of your snow/cold weather. Brr!
I fell down for the first time while running this weekend – in a race! It was embarrassing, but I popped right back up and kept going. I managed to still come in 1st in my AG, although it was a very small, teeny-tiny race. But the win helped smooth my ego a little after that fall!
I haven’t done any virtual races in a awhile, I wanted to do Zooma but I am just getting back to running after an injury, love the swag.
I hope the knee heals quickly. And the cold.
Oh what fun! Zooma puts on a great race event!
I’ve never done a virtual race before! Sounds fun!
Oh your poor knee! How is it feeling? It was tough to get in the Zooma miles with the nutso cold weather. Hope you are feeling better!
