So many miles…

Did you hear that I ran 50 miles last week?  It’s not like I’ve mentioned it on Facebook.  Or twitter.  Or y’know, in a post or anything…

OK, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m pretty proud of myself for successfully running 50 miles in one week.  I’ve never hit that number before.  I wasn’t sure I could do it, but my body actually handed it pretty well.  I’ve gotten pretty good at running well on tired legs.  I’ve gotten pretty good at summoning mental strength (two of my double digit runs were on the treadmill!)  My training is going really, really well.  In fact, I’ve even had a few runs where 9′s have shown up and some long runs with an average pace in the low 10s.

But… (you knew there had to be a but, didn’t you?)

I’m tired of running.  I’m starting to feel burned out.  I’m discovering that I’m not a high mileage runner. I’ve reached the point where every time I head out for a run, I know I’ll be running for a minimum of an hour and a half.  That’s not something you can “squeeze in”.  That’s something that has to be planned.

I know I can do this.  As long as I continue to listen to my body, I will finish this training cycle.  I will have at least 3 more 50+ mile weeks. I will get my 200 miles in February.  I will run five half marathons in five days in March.

And then?  I think maybe I’ll take up macrame for a while…

You are absolutely doing it! You will do as wonderfully as you are now and then some!’

The macrame creations will be beautiful when it’s all done, so are you planning them in your head while you run now? :-)

Best to you! Keep it up! We believe in you!

THat’s a lot of running. My knee couldn’t handle it, but even if it could, I don’t think I’d enjoy that type of mileage either. Just not my thing… But good luck with this. You are on track and doing great!

Just take it one run at a time. You can do it!

You. Can. Do. It!

(And when you’re done… macrame. Or beer-tasting. Or swimming. And in a couple of months you’ll actually *want* to run again.) ;-)

Congrats! I wonder the same thing sometimes, too. I just hit my own weekly mileage record (36 mpw) and felt kind of tired and bored by the end of the week. But I think it just takes time to mentally adjust to higher mileage. I know I remember when I considered 5 miles to be a “long” run, and now that’s no big deal. You know?
