Simply Bar Review and Giveaway

by MCM Mama on July 18, 2012

Recently I was contacted with the opportunity to try out “The Simply Bar.”  I had heard about them on various blogs and I happened to be attempting to add extra protein to my diet plus eat more frequently.  While I was mostly focused on clean, whole foods, I’d had a few instances where I hit “gnaw my arm off” hungry with no healthy options available to me.  The Simply Bars sounded like just what I needed to have available in those instances.

According to the company,

Each bar contains 16 g protein, paired with 2-4g of fat, under 3 g of sugar, 4 g of fiber, and 160 calories or
less. Each bar is based on Non GMO soy crisps along organic brown rice syrup. All the cocoa bars are made
with organic cocoa mass (we promise this is easy to digest). Other ingredients used are coconut, raisins and
raspberries. See here for a more information, including a list of ingredients/nutritional info for each bar.

I was sent the Caramel Peanut, Cinnamon Pecan, Lemon Coconut, and Peanut Butter Chocolate to try.  I grabbed the first bar one morning when I was running late getting out the door and forgot to eat breakfast.  I was kind of surprised at how dry it was when I first took a bite – to me caramel = chewy, but I liked the flavor.  After I got used to the texture (not bad, just not what I was expecting), I really liked it and I was pleased with how long I felt full.  The other three bars I ate as mid-day snacks when I was out running around with the kids or traveling.  Each time I was amazed at how they gave me energy, handled my hunger, and didn’t give me a sugar letdown.  I’m super sensitive to sugar and I get a bit crabby (Beer Geek might say more than a bit) if my blood sugar drops.  (Seriously, I still get teased about an incident that happened 20+ years ago when I was too hungry to be rational. Ahem.)

My favorite flavors were the Lemon Coconut and the Cinnamon Pecan.  I’m not really a “bar” kind of girl (I just carry almonds with me most of the time), but I plan to buy some of these to keep in my purse and the car.  Since I finished the four I was given, I’ve had a few times already where Beer Geek I was wishing I had one with me.

Want to try the same four flavors I had?  The Simply Bar has offered one of my readers a chance to win a sample.  Simply (no pun intended LOL) use Rafflecopter below to enter.

Depending if I’m in the mood for chocolate or something fruity, I’d pick Peanut Butter Chocolate or Lemon Coconut.

Kinda put off by the 24g of fat! But I love trying new bars.
