iFitness phone/ipod armband review

by MCM Mama on August 6, 2012

You may have noticed something in nearly all of my race pictures since April – a new armband.

iFitness Armband

I don’t run with music, but I do run with my cell phone on 99% of my runs and races. Why? Because I feel safer plus I am often running while my kids are at school and I need to be reachable if I’m needed. I tried several different armbands, but I found that they either wouldn’t stay tight enough or they pinched or were just plain uncomfortable.

I happened upon the iFitness booth at the expo for the National Marathon this past spring.  I’d been interested in buying one of their armbands, but hadn’t because I was worried I’d have just one more armband that wouldn’t work.  I tried it on and liked it.

I’ve now run a half marathon, two 10ks, some shorter races, and a bazillion training runs while wearing it.  And I have to say, it ROCKS.

  • It’s comfortable.  Seriously – no chafing even on long, wet (or sweaty) runs.
  • It holds a ton. Usually I have my iphone, an ID, some money, and my key all stuffed in there.  I’ve even added a couple of gels with no problem.
  • It’s easy to get on.
  • It STAYS on, right where I put it.

Apparently I’m a pack rat even when running

The only negative is that it’s not waterproof. I found this out the hard way when I sweated through it. Thankfully, my iphone wasn’t harmed and now I just put my phone in a ziploc bag before putting it in the armband. Problem solved.

Glad you found a good one! The one I’m using is chafing my arm and leaving literal scabs…ugh.

I love my arm band–though it only holds my iPod. I’m surprised yours stays on even with all the stuff in it. I used one of those arm bands I got free from a health expo and it kept sliding down ’cause I packed my keys, etc in it and was too heavy. I’ll definitely keep this in mind, thanks!

You know, I think that it’s about time that I look into getting an armband or something for my iPhone. I run with my phone for the same reasons you do but I often just hold my phone in my hand – not necessarily the best solution. Thanks for sharing this. I will definitely check it out!

I’d probably sweat through mine too! I get soooo sweaty when I run! I just broke my armband, I definitely need a new one!

Thanks for sharing this! :)

Ooh yeah sounds great! I usually don’t run with my phone, even when Iwant to , simply because I don’t have the means to. I’d need a quality case like that -s ounds like you found the trick!

Glad you found something that works!

I think I’m one of the few who doesn’t run with a phone. I see the reasons for carrying it, but for me, running is about a time of day where I can’t be reached.

Love it! My problem with the arm band is that I can’t get used to the extra weight on my arm… I don’t know what my problem is. Thank you.

Wow, you carry a lot of stuff! I’m glad that works for you. Nothing more annoying that an armband slipping as you run.

I just use an old armband and hook my holstered iphone in it. Sweat can’t get to it because the plastic holster is between my body and the phone, and the screen is safe because it is facing in (since I’m a klutz and trip over my feet from time to time).

That sounds AWESOME. I’m a pack rat too when it comes to going on runs, but I just feel safer when I have that stuff with me. I would most likely sweat right through it though!
