Thanks so much for all of your support of my choice to not run another marathon right now. Obviously, it’s something I had to figure out on my own, but it always feels good to be understood. I’m still in Wisconsin, enjoying time with my family. I had an awesome run the other day – 4 miles in 37:30ish – which reminded me that my sucky running has a ton to do with the heat in Virginia. Thankfully, we are halfway through August, so by the time I get home, the temps should be cooling off. I won’t run again until the half marathon on Saturday and I’m hopeful that the cooler weather here will make for a fun race. Either way, I get to hang with my BRF, Kim, so it’s all good.
Once again, I’m featuring another Half Crazy Mom. Want to be featured? Email me at mcmmamaruns at gmail.com. I’d love to feature YOU!
Kaella is the mom of a super cute little guy named London and she is training for her fourth half marathon. She’s relatively new to the blogging world and is loving how supportive our community is!
Welcome, Kaella!
When was your first half marathon? What race?
My first half marathon was in September 2013. It was the Lethbridge Regional Police’s “Torch Run” for Special Olympics. Completing a half marathon had always been on my life, and fitness, bucket lists. I had finished several 5 and 10 K’s and felt ready to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I wanted to finish in under 2:30 hours and crushed my goal, coming in at 2:09:20! Having my family and friends waiting at the finish line was amazing!
How many half marathons have you run total?
I have done three half marathons and am currently training for my 4th. I’ll be returning to run the LRPS half in September and am hoping to get another sub 2 hour finish time!
Which one was your favorite?
My favourite half marathon (my favourite race) is the NYC Half. NYC is my favourite place in the world and I was THRILLED to be accepted into the lottery this year. I rounded up some girlfriends to make the trip with me and committed 100% to a training plan. I wanted a sub 2 hour half. I’ve been to NYC four times but to see it from that perspective was absolutely incredible! I can’t even describe the feeling of running through Times Square! I crushed my goal and completed the race in 1:54:14 and shaved almost 15 minutes off my first half, six months prior.
How or when did you decide to run more half marathons?
After I finished my first half, and realized I could actually do it, I wanted to continue to push myself. I immediately put my name in for the NYC Lottery and signed up for the Calgary Half Marathon (which was held June 1st of this year.) It’s my favourite race distance!
Tell us a bit about your goals
I’d love to crack 1:50, take my family to California and “Run Disney” and, eventually, complete a full marathon. My dream race (now that I’ve done the NYC Half) would be the NYC Marathon in November 2016.

Kaella’s Bio
Hi, I’m Kaella. A 30 year old mom from Vancouver, British Columbia but now calling Alberta home. I work full time as a journalist and spend most of my free time chasing around my almost-2-year-old son London around. I love to run (specifically race) and recently completed a 397 day run streak. I started “seriously” running after I had my son to lose the baby weight and quickly fell in love with it. I also love NYC, 5 cent candies, soy chai tea lattes and hosting Bachelor/Bachelorette nights with my girls while we catch up over wine and yummy food!
