Generally speaking, I don’t have weight problems. Meaning, I’ve stayed within a 5 pound range for more than 3 years at this point and it’s an ok range for me. I’ll admit to preferring the bottom end of the range ;o) and currently I’m at the top end, but even now, I’m comfortable with where I am (just don’t ask me to put on a bikini, o.k.?)
What I’m not happy with is my eating habits. Judging by my relatively stable weight, I’m doing a decent job of balancing calories in and calories expended, but I’m doing a horrible job with the actual eating. Last fall, my schedule got so overwhelming that I was constantly eating on the run. Add to that my natural tendency to be a snacker and I’ve ended up with a lot of mindless eating.
I don’t know about you, but for me, mindless eating translates into a lot of extra calories that I don’t notice. As in, if I snack from mid-morning until mid-afternoon, I’ll still be “hungry” because I never sat down and focused on a meal. I don’t need anything more to eat (from a physical standpoint), but my mind feels gyped because I didn’t eat lunch. And let’s not talk about all the random crusts and kid leftovers I eat without even thinking about it.
So, for the next 3 weeks, I’m going to practice deliberate eating. I’m not planning (at this point) to necessarily change *what* I eat. I just want to eat designated meals and designated snacks and quit the constant grazing. Why? Because I’m afraid at some point all this unplanned eating is going to catch up with me and I’d rather nip it in the bud before it causes weight issues.
Am I the only one like this? Or do find yourself eating a lot throughout the day and then still eating meals?
And for your viewing pleasure, you may remember that Jones and Shoo had the opportunity to join PBSkids for a taping of promotional videos for Wild Kratts. Below is the video that Jones was in. He pops into view a few times at the edge of the screen in a blue shirt. I told him next time he needs to stand closer to the stars LOL.
I find my eating habits take a hit about two days after a very long run.
I am definitely a snacker. I found espeically in the winter its bad. That was an awesome video,my step daughter is jealous because she used to watch the Kraft Brothers on tv a lot.
I feel like I need an eating "training schedule" like a running one. Without a plan, I snack like you do.
I am a snacker to the max, so I may try this. PS -thanks for tagging me!
I found that just tracking what I eat helps me tremendously with overeating. Just writing it down makes me think about what I'm eating and since doing it, I've stopped the double dipping of snacking and later still feeling like I need a meal.
I agree with Jamoosh and feel the same thing.Yay for the Kratts! Jones is famous now 🙂
I'm definitely a snacker, even more so while I'm preggo since constant eating helps me feel better. But even when I'm not preggo, I am almost always hungry every two hours or so.
I have terrible eating habits, and like you, have never had a real weight problem. From time to time, I focus on my eating and am better (and I'm defintiely better overall now than 5 years ago), but I have a hard time making better eating habits stick. Good luck to you!
You are completely preaching to my choir here. Mindless eating is my downfall. Being injured has forced me to be more deliberate, so I'm hoping that will carry over when I am back out there. So cute in the video!
Your son's famous now! Tell him to practice writing his autograph. 🙂
I try my best to get a recovery drink in within the glycemic window(30 minutes after any run over an hour long) This really has helped curb my appetite down the line. Protein in the morning also does a good job of keeping me from feeling overly hungry throughout the day.
i needed to become very deliberate with my eating to lose the extra weight i was carrying. now it is habit and i feel much better in general.
In general I have pretty good eating habits, especially during the work week. I bring my lunch, vegies or salad everyday. Once in a blue moon I get soup from the work kitchen. But weekends are a whole different situation. For the most part I am OK – but there are just so many more temptations – pantry – frig – freezer, etc. Great idea to eat deliberately – otherwise it is just too easy to grab somethng, even if you are not hungry.
I find it much easier to manage my food if I have meals. It's so easy to get lost in the chaos of the day and just snack all day. Good luck.
This is why I started tracking my food religiously. I eat SO MUCH without even paying attention to it. I'm also a bug snacker but also like my meals so I was oftemn over-shooting my reasonable carloe range by 1000+. Not cool!Good luck!
