It’s Monday, so of course, it’s time to recap my weekend and last week’s training plan. This past weekend was fun, fun, fun. I was the guest instagrammer for the Skirt Sports instagram account and we had a busy weekend planned.
Friday night, we ate dinner in, since I’d been out every night that week. Granted, two of those nights were soccer practice for Shoo, but still, I was tired of not eating at home. So, we had a mellow night in and opened a new beer I’d just picked up: Hardywood Peach Tripel. It.was.awesome!
Saturday morning, I woke up early to a rainy day. Unfortunately, that did not mean it was any cooler, just more humid. Oh well, I picked a skirt, drank my coffee, and got ready to head out the door.
Only to discover that my Garmin had completely drained itself. Ugh! And the local track is closed. So, I did what I could to create a speed workout – I ran fartleks on my four mile route.
After I got home, it was time for a quick shower and then we headed over to Mad Fox Brewpub to celebrate their 5th anniversary. We got to attend the VIP reception before the official open time and it was a lot of fun with really good beer. We stuck around for an hour or so after the reception to enjoy some more good beer and some lunch. I had some amazing pulled pork nachos!
After Mad Fox, we headed to Rustico on our way home. I love the huge selection of beer there and the staff always take the time to talk to Shoo about soccer (he always has on a professional team’s jersey.)
Finally, we got back home and I discovered I’d gotten a few good things in the mail. I needed some sliver/white flats for a dress I bought and the shoes had arrived! I also got a grey Skirt Sports Jaguar skirt. I had exchanged my usual size in the Happy Girl for one size bigger in the Jaguar and now I get why everyone loves this skirt! I may never actually run in it as it looks like the perfect hanging out skirt! (And I’m leaning towards the S shaped shoes, in case you are wondering.)
Sunday was a quiet day. I did very little picture worthy activity. I grocery shopped, did laundry, straightened the house, and went for a 6 mile run.
Speaking of Running…
Last week was rough. That seems the best way to describe it. Monday I managed the right miles, but slower than planned. After that, I never hit my mileage goals. I can blame pretty much everything except my legs. Those felt great LOL. The heat shut me down early on Tuesday and my digestive system wreaked havoc on several runs. I also got to deal with pouring rain and potential lightning when I attempted to run during Shoo’s soccer practice and a dead Garmin when I wanted to do speed work. Seriously, it was like the “Murphy’s Law” week of training LOL.
But, I’m back on track. I ran 6 miles yesterday (despite an emergency stop back at the house.) And this morning I’m heading out for a 10 mile run. I’ve moved my training schedule around so that my long runs are now on a day when Beer Geek is home. The kids are old enough to stay by themselves, but I don’t like to run too far from home when I do that. Running 10+ miles within a mile of my house gets really really old. Now I can run wherever I want and know that a) someone is there if the kids need something and b) I can “dial a ride” if my run blows up.
I love the Marine Corps Marathon and I can’t wait to run 6 half marathons in 6 days in September, but I am over training through the summer. I do not plan to make this same mistake again.
How was your weekend? Are you a fan of major training during the summer or do you just take it easy and run for fun?
I’m linking up with Tara from Running ‘n’ Reading and Erin from Her Heartland Soul this morning. Don’t forget that for tomorrow’s Tuesdays on the Run we want to see where you run!
here is to a better week for you you you and for me a week which mimics my weekend (SO GREAT) and isnt as … stressful as I fear?
<3
I still train in the summer, but not nearly as structured as the training in the spring and fall. My boys are off school and home with me so I do what I can with them and minimize the time I’m off with long runs/rides. I used to wake up super early to get it all in but I need my sleep!
I don’t mind training in the summer, but of course, we’re not having the heat that you are!
I managed to get a three mile run in… but it is SO HOT! I hate running in this weather. Looking forward to the fall when things cool down. I enjoy your postings about beer! My husband is a home brewer and his love of craft beer has rubbed off on me. Will look for that peach tripel!
Bottle of peach for your best babysitter??
I’m currently running for fun, but that’s usually how I handle summer. I trained once through summer and never again! It’s just rough, even when I’m inside, with a fan built in to the treadmill.
Sounds like a pretty good week! I have just rediscovered a couple of running skirts in my drawer!
Cute new goodies! I’ve been having a rough time on the training front, too – but I’m determined to get back at it this week!
Love that Jaguar skirt – so cute!
Quiet day. Only ran 6 miles. Bwahaha! Gotta listen to yourself!
Here I take my off season during the winter. I’m not a fan of running in the heat, but it’s easier than running through 2 feet of snow in minus whatever wind chill. Plus it’s been a relatively cool summer for us.
I’m glad this week is starting better for you. Cheers to marathon training!
I don’t usually train for anything too serious during the summer because of our heat factor in the desert. Actually, though, my marathon PR was at the St. George marathon, which is in early October, so most of my long runs were in August. I went back the next year hoping to improve my PR, but we had the summer from hell that year, so hot and humid that even at 4 in the morning it was in the 90s with high humidity. So, I don’t do many early fall marathons any more.
peach beer, mmm!!! I am not really a fan of running in the DC humidity so have kept it light this summer but still deciding on whether I am actually going to up my limits and train for MCM or pass this year.
ooh didn’t realize how cute the Jaguar was. I don’t think I would run it either but I would hang around in it too.
I just commented how I’m over training for spring marathons – I haaaaate training over the winter, but our summers aren’t overly hot or humid, so it’s not too bad for training.
I have a love hate relationship with summer marathon training running. I’m super excited about having an early fall marathon (the love part) so I’m learning to deal with all this heat and humidity (the hate part). I am just trying to get the miles and just doing whatever pace that it is that day. I am so with ya!!
Love love all the running skirts!
yes I am training thru the summer and hope this damn heat doesn’t kill me! I just keep telling myself when it cools off this fall I will feel like super woman! 🙂 sounds like you had a great weekend and some fun beer events!
In my opinion, running in the humidity is worse than running in the heat. That’s why I often delay starting my long runs on the weekends til the early morning humidity has broken. Its just so hard to breathe in 100% humidity, no matter how “cool” the temperature is.
The only thing that gets me through summer training is knowing how much faster I’ll be come cooler weather!
I am taking it easy this summer and just doing activities for fun. I love your new running skirts!
The skirt does look great! I enjoyed reading your training log about how hard it is to run in the heat right now. It’s hard to stay on schedule. You never know what kind of run the day will bring. I planned an 8 Miler yesterday, but had to stop after 3 miles because I could barely breath, the humidity was through the roof! You did great though. 6 miles yesterday, followed by 10 today. I’ll take that example on my runs with me this week! 🙂
I’m sitting around truly questioning my sanity…training in THIS kick-your-tail heat & humidity for an October marathon. What.was.I.thinking?
That is a super cute skirt, I’ve never seen it! I agree, I like the “S” shaped shoes as well! Looks like a fun time at Mad Fox!
I usually train during the summer. For the first time in years I don’t have a fall goal race. Kinda missing the training.
Hugs. The heat and humidity really make you question the training doesn’t it.?
That’s the worst when you have to change your running plans! Definitely happened to me before too where the track is closed and I’m like, crap. lol I love your running skirt collection!
I’m not a runner, but I tend to slow down on my regular workouts during the summer just because there are so many other things to do. But I’ve recently started ramping them up again. Hopefully this week of training will go more according to plan!
I hate training in the winter – and then in the summer I remember how hard it is in the heat. Great job getting in a run even ith the track closed!
