I kind of took June off. I exercised (some). I ran (a little). I walked (not much). And I’m feeling it. In the tightness of my shorts. In my mental state.
It’s time to get back on the horse. While I don’t need to train for anything in particular, I do need to get back on a schedule and get back in the habit of exercise, before I slide down that slippery slope to sitting on the couch eating potato chips as my main exercise.
It’s time to see what I’ve accomplished in the first half of the year and think about what I’ll try to accomplish in the second half. Perhaps I need to add some goals.
Running
I have one major goal for running this year: Don’t hurt myself. (OK, I hurt myself, but I bounced back.)
Everything else is just details.
- Finish my five half marathons in five days. Preferably upright and smiling. Knocked this out of the park!!!
- Run 13 half marathons in 2013 (mix of Virtual and IRL). 10 done already (2 virtual, 8 IRL)
- Run 13 IRL races (not exactly difficult when 7 will be done by the end of March.) 9 done – only 4 more to go. Guess I should register for something LOL.
- Run races in at least 6 states (again, not that hard when 5 will be done in one week.) 8 done. I did 8 half marathons in 8 different states! Two new states still planned for the year.
- If all goes well, think about using all that mileage to train for a full in May/June and/or run 2013 miles in 2013. (This one TOTALLY hinges on succeeding with number 1.) Nope, throwing away this goal. Replacing it with becoming a serial half marathon runner. I have races planned for April, May, June, and October (2 back to back) I need to find 3 more halves for the fall…
Fitness/Physical Health
- Get the kids moving with me. Just bought them inline skates, which they love, but we are struggling here.
- Cut down on the sugar and the cheese. Aiming for added sugar only 2x per week and no more than one cheese serving a day. Sucking at this, but if my clothes are any indication, I need to get serious.
- Get in 2 non-running workouts each week. I’ve discovered I LOVE Tina’s online boot camp. LOVE IT! Now I need to just get some cardio back in my life.
- Figure out how to fuel myself for the major mileage I’ve been doing and have healthy food ready to go when the “mileage hungries” hit. Big old failure so far. Really packed on the weight during my build up to the five halves. I’m still struggling to get this weight off.
- Buy the stupid bike that I’ve been talking about for two years. HUGE news here – my parents brought me a nice Trek mountain bike!!!! It’s awesome. It’s purple. Now I just need to learn how to use the gears…
Work
- Continue working for my awesome boss at my job that I enjoy. Get better at balancing my priorities. Getting better at this and trying to take on some new responsibilities
- Stop working late at night. I got this.
- Enjoy the heck out of working the NWM half in DC. Done. It was awesome.
Personal
- Join BURP (a local homebrew club). Really going to do this this year. Yeah, still need to work on that.
- Brew a batch of beer at home. Ok, at least finish buying the equipment I need. I think I’m going to let this go. I just don’t have the time or space.
- Go out with Beer Geek without the kids at least once every two weeks. Doing pretty good on this.
- Take a trip with Beer Geek. Already got this one booked… Done!
- Continue to slowly clean out the clutter in our house. This year’s focus is turning the playroom into an office by the time summer arrives (the basement is not air conditioned…) Time to focus on this.
I feel like I’m on track in so many ways, yet I’m not getting where I want to go. Time to step things up a notch!
And with that, I’m going to head out for a run in the 96% humidity. No, it isn’t raining. Ugh.
Enjoy the soak fest in that humidity. I am heading out shortly, also, to avoid the rain coming. You are so much further along in your goals for the year than I am. Way to go!
You are going so great in all of your goals, I love that you are challenging yourself to try new things and to push your comfort levels!
Regarding your fuel goal, have you heard of the SkratchLabs Feed Zone cookbook. They have their main book and then a Portables cookbook which is basically all things you can make yourself as small athlete-friendly meals for training or on the go. I am new to it, but yummy so far.
Taking time off is therapeutic in it’s own!
Way to set the bar, so glad you are reaching your goals. I too cannot get enough cardio in my life. so I joined baseball and soccer summer leagues. What a blast 🙂
Your check in seems far better than mine 🙂 Looks like you are doing great to me!
Nice list and progress. I love the organization and tracking that you are doing. Have a good day!
You’re doing great with your goals for the year. It’s probably time that I sat down and evaluated where I am for the year.
Good luck with your goals!!
And, I hope your survived the run in 96% humidity – UGH!!
You’re really doing well with your list. But I guess it’s good to reassess right about now – we’re almost halfway through the year already.
Why the hate for the cheese? Cheese is so damn good.
