At the beginning of May, I set a goal of getting back up to 100 miles a month and running at least one double digit run.
Neither happened.
And, surprisingly, I’m ok with that. There are plenty of reasons/excuses for it not happening: heat, sick kids, work picking up, volunteering…
But, when it comes right down to it, it happened for two reasons. 1) I’m human and 2) Sometimes running can’t be the priority.
I had some great runs this month including a speed session that included 4 quarter mile repeats at a 7:30 pace and a few random miles here and there where I hit low 8s again. I had some awful runs. I’m having my usual trouble adapting to the heat. But, with no race on the immediate horizon, I’m ok with that. I’ll run when I can, how I can and do my best to enter my official half marathon training strong, fast, and uninjured.
Today, I’m playing hooky from all the things I really need to get done and heading south. I’m going to spend a few hours with T and G. And I can’t wait!
Thanks for putting that song in my head, I get knocked down. Now I will be singing it all day. I may have to look it up on iTunes. You are right running can't always be a priority!
I didn't even realize that today is the last day of May before reading your post! That really crept up on me. Here's to June!
And the heat really came in with a vengeance! Enjoy your day "off."
All that matters is that you are ok with it, which means you have your priorities in order in my book!
I soooo agree – Life happens! Have a great time visiting bloggie friends for the day!
the heat….OH MAN the heat!
It will probably serve you well to have a lower mileage month. That way, when you start to train for a goal race you won't be all worn out!
I hope you have a fun trip! I'm also struggling with the heat and hoping that it backs off for a little while sometime soon!
I'm the same in the heat. I've decided that it's okay, rather than fight it I just have to slow down and wait for the weather to cool.
I love that you were able to find peace in not meeting your goal. ::hugs::
Wait!…You're Human? 😉 Joking aside, you've got your priorities right, which is what counts. Hoping you have a great May..oops, June!
