Halfway? Really?

July 2, 2012 by MCM Mama 14 Comments

If you are reading this post at MommyTrack, please realize that this post was borrowed without my permission.  If you enjoy my material, please read it at my actual website.  Thank you.

The last few days have been sort of a surreal existence.  Who knew that a 30ish minute thunderstorm could knock a region on its rear?  So many here are still without power.  Just yesterday morning, I went on a search for gas at 8 am.  I ended up filling up one car at one station (using a debit card because their credit system was down.)  I filled the other car at a different station using every bit of cash I had on me because they didn’t have anything working except the pumps.  Trees are still down – I had to find a new route to the airport to pick up my mom.  Jones’ camp was canceled completely because they need electricity to pump water to the campsites and they still don’t have power.  My cell works, my internet works, my landline does not (they are, bizarrely, all Verizon.)  The strangest part is not knowing what to expect.  Not knowing who will have electricity, who will take what form of payment, etc.  And yes, I’m eternally grateful for the fact that I am typing this in a lit room with the AC running.

So, I guess it’s time to evaluate my year.  It’s not been the year I expected, from a fitness standpoint, but it’s been a pretty good year so far overall.

Running

  1. Continue to run injury free in 2012. LISTEN to my body and visit my chiro as needed. This seems to change in the blink of an eye.  One day I’m fine, the next I’ve got some new issue.  {{Shrug}} Just doing my best to keep fit at this point.
  2. Build my “base mileage” to at least 30 miles per week. Then consider various training options. I’m barely making 10 miles some weeks.
  3. Run a “balls to the wall, leave it all on the course, go right up to the puke threshold (maybe beyond)” 5k at the Love the Run You’re with 5k in February. Did this.  Did it at a couple of other races too.
  4. Run races in at least 4 states – Hoping for some blogging buddy meetups in Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and either Connecticut, Rhode Island, or Massachusetts. – North Carolina is done, Oregon and Washington are scheduled.  Who knows what other state I’ll manage…

Fitness/Physical Health

  1. Keep up the 30 minutes of intentional movement every day that I started on December 1. I’ll admit to some lazy days.
  2. Get the kids moving with me. Umm, weak, very weak.
  3. Keep my focus on veggies and fruits. Continue to strive for 7 a day every day. No problems here.
  4. Try one new fitness activity this year. (I’d like to say each month but part of being SMART is being realistic LOL) I’ve tried about four new things, so doing great here.
  5. Bike enough to make it worth buying a new bike. Uh, no.  And my house is conspiring against me and making me buy things like a new dishwasher.  And obviously a Kindle was more important…

Business

  1. Continue working for my awesome boss at my job that I enjoy. (Working for someone you’ve been friends with since you were 19 does not suck.) More work than I can handle going on here.  Still very happy with it.
  2. Continue to grow my relationship with my local running store, as a volunteer and a coach. (I actually have a specific goal here, but it’s still under wraps.) Yep.
  3. Even though I’m no longer running a coaching business, keep working with moms who want to get back in shape/start running as a volunteer activity. I let this go.  Too much else going on.

Personal

  1. Join BURP (a local homebrew club). Not yet.
  2. Brew a batch of beer at home. In the planning stages for a fall attempt.
  3. Go out with Beer Geek without the kids at least once every two weeks. Yep.
  4. Take a trip with Beer Geek. We went wine tasting and stayed at a B&B.  No big trip going to happen this year.
  5. Continue to slowly clean out the clutter in our house. Living someplace for 14 years tends to fill a place up LOL. I have big plans for the week that has now reappeared on my schedule.

I need to contemplate some new goals.  I keep making Beer Geek nervous with  my talk of moving to Oregon or knocking down walls in the dining room.  I’m feeling “antsy” for lack of better word, which means I need to find a new physical challenge and the sooner the better.  When I’m tired from running so much, I don’t spend as much time trying to rock his world LOL.

How’s your 2012 going?  Any big surprises or goals you’ve added?

That is one impressive list of goals. I didn’t really make a list, but I do have this unwritten goal to keep on running. Since we moved to the country in January I have started to run six times a week, and I really like it!

So sorry to hear about all of the storm devastation – it is, indeed, amazing that such a quick storm could wreak so much havoc! I hope things return to normal for you soon!

PS – I love the phrase “intentional movement.”
Nice work on your goals so far this year!

Sorry About the wreck the storms left.
Your goals are impressive and you have started on some. Think it is good to reevaluate and see where you are at and adjust accordingly. Life is is fluid and goals should somewhat go with the flow.

Quite an impressive list of goals. Love how you set them in all areas, not just fitness.

    Glad you still have power!

You’re doing great with your goals! It is hard to believe we’re half way through the year already — good time to step back and reflect.

Wow, sorry about the power outage, sounds brutal. We’ve been seeing reports on the news and I just can’t imagine. One good thing about living in NYC is that power outages where we live (not all parts of NYC, however) hardly ever experience power outages. Hope all the power is back on soon!

What a quick storm but yet there’s such long lasting effects from it. Hope everyone gets power back soon!

I just found your blog and read your “about” section 🙂 Nice to know I am not the only beer drinking runner who is trying to run past the emotions post pregnancy. And I live in MD!

Loved reading your goal recap. And, I’m laughing at you needing a physical challenge so you won’t talk about knocking down walls or moving. I keep talking about moving to Seattle this week because it’s so darn hot here and I’m afraid that dh is getting a little freaked out by it all!
