Happy Hour is the new Coffee Date

May 1, 2020 by MCM Mama 7 Comments

Here we are starting a new month in a world where coffee dates and Happy Hours are taking place online. ZOOM is the new cool coffee shop and bar. So I guess Deb and Coco‘s virtual coffee date was just ahead of its time.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I ran every day in the month of April and that I successfully ran the Yeti 24 Hour Challenge. It’s the first time since August that I’ve broken 100 miles for the month. But it was a good running month and a kickoff for my next virtual – The Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee. I’ll have to up my game to hit 1000k by August 31, but I seem to have plenty of time on my hands.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that ZOOMA has just opened its own Run Club. What’s ZOOMA Run Club?

“ZOOMA Run Club is here to provide a different type of motivation towards a different finish line – a mileage goal, monthly challenges and virtual races – goals that can’t be cancelled. And once those races come back, we’ll support and motivate you towards those finish lines too!”

Join me! I’ll be busy hanging out in the group when I’m not running all the miles.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that in the entire month of April, I never went inside anywhere other than my house. I had my groceries delivered, got my veggies from Imperfect Foods (I’ve been very impressed), got milk from South Mountain Creamery (a localish dairy), and got small deliveries from local companies – breweries, restaurants, and a local sausage company. While I will eventually go back in the stores, I will be much more careful about supporting local businesses (and my teen says I’m never going back to store bought milk…) I’ve also learned that I have some of the most amazing friends and supporters a girl could hope for as I’ve had friends drop off everything from ketchup to masks to virtual race bibs. My heart is warmed knowing I’ve surrounded myself with such an awesome village.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve had a lot of ups and downs with the current situation. While in many ways we as a household are fortunate, it has brought major changes. I’ve learned that I suck as a teacher, that I can find the funny or the silver lining in anything (yes, my random thoughts still happen on the daily), and that I’m really going to miss my senior when/if he heads to college in the fall, even though his “office” is my workout room. (Go Sparty!)

So, raising my beer (it is Friday after all and I have 2! happy hours tonight), to another month. Stay safe, my friends. And please reach out if there’s anyway at all I can help you through this.

I just saw another friend signed up for the race across Tennessee….hmmmm. Now I’m kinda wanting that adventure to add to my roster.

<3 I'm glad you have such a wonderful village. It helps, especially in times like these.

A beer sounds fantastic right about now.

i haven't been inside a store since the middle of March. It's just crazy. We are starting to get our produce from a local farm. I wish we had a dairy. And my husband is researching ordering 1/16 of a cow for our meat. Supporting local is the way to go.

WOW! 1000k in 4 months! Holy smokes! I briefly considered that until I did the math and realized there is no way that I can make that happen. Maybe if it went through December…. lol Good for you, though!! I think it would be fun to watch the progress on the map. And it’s crazy to think that some people might actually do the across AND back in that time. Mind blowing.

And that’s really cool that you haven’t had to step into a grocery store. I wish I could stay away. I’ve been getting fruits and veggies from Misfits Market and that’s been pretty good, and I get meat from Butcher Box (signed up right before all this went down so I beat the waiting list!), but I still need milk, eggs, yogurt, etc. I suppose I could order some perishables from Amazon – I’ll probably start doing that. The grocery store drives me nuts.

So glad to hear that your running is going so well right now and that you are past all of your injuries. It is weird to only run by our houses. I definitely miss the MRTT squad

Great job in running every day of the month in April–that’s awesome! (I ran…once. ._.) That’s awesome that you’re supporting so many local places too! :]

I’m glad you have such an awesome network of friends and supporters!

Great to hear running is being good to you right now. Congrats on completing the Yeti challenge!

And how nice to have stayed out of grocery stores – I wish there were more delivery options here cause I’m so over the stress of visiting a store.

I love following along on your Yeti 24-Hour Ultra. Congrats!

I went into my first store since mid-March on Tuesday morning when I shopped at Costco at 8 AM – oh the perks of being over 60. 😉 And no, still no toilet paper.

Is the South Mountain Creamery the one that’s at the major exchange in Ragnar DC? If so, we were always there in the middle of the night so I never got to try their milkshakes.
