It’s time for a brain reset over here. I need to take a step back and stop judging every run. Because really, every run is a good run. Why? Because I got to run. I’m trained *enough* to finish my upcoming half marathon. I know I can finish it. Will it be a PR? No, but I never planned for it to be. I have a few more long runs and they WILL get done, but I’m going to stress a whole lot less about them.
Yesterday I ran 6.5 miles in beautiful weather. I spent the whole run with a stomach that threatened to empty in one direction or the other. I made a pit stop at a 7-11 about a mile in and they didn’t have a public bathroom, so I just kept running. And I didn’t worry about pace since I had to slow down when my stomach would rebel.
Last week, I would have called that an awful, no good run. But it wasn’t the run’s fault my stomach hurt. The weather was gorgeous. I ran the second 3 miles faster than the first three. My legs felt great. It.was.a.good.run.
This week is going to be crazy with only two days of both kids in school, so I’m designating it a step back week. I’ve hit 30+ miles for the last 3 weeks. As long as I break 20 this week, I’ll be happy.
Stay tuned for “A few of my favorite things” giveaway… as soon as I find time to take pictures LOL.

I so agree – any run is a good run. Remember to enjoy your runs. No injuries – no reason not to run. Run for the fun of it.
I agree about every run being a good run. Judging each run takes away from some of the enjoyment.
good – glad you can feel like this one was a good run!
Nice perspective! I've noticed that I am more susceptible to stomach problems in warmer weather (doesn't have to be hot, just warm– especially when I am not acclimated) so that could have been a factor with your stomach. Thanks for sharing!
Good attitude and way to get the run done! Good luck with your busy week.
"Because really, every run is a good run. Why? Because I got to run." …thank you, for writing that. I have been jealous of your "bad running" for a while now, un-able to say anything without sounding like a bitter injured runner… which, is, in fact, what I am… 🙂
Great post! I over-analyze every run and if I miss my target time by 1 second, I can let it ruin the whole run. Pretty dumb! Great thoughts about just getting out there!
Great perspective – I needed this reminder! Of late I've been very critical of my runs and all that judgement can suck the joy out of running! Glad you had a good run 🙂
Way to run! I totally understand what you're saying. Lately my only goal when I hit the pavement is to take it easy and enjoy running again.
thank you for reminding me to not judge myself so harshly.
I needed that reminder! I am very judgemental of my runs. I need to change my way of thinking and be grateful for the fact that I can use my legs and lungs to run!!
Agreed and very well said. Too many expectations can take away from the humanity of simply running and the thankfulness of being able to do it.
Rock on! Sometimes a reset is what we all need.
I love that attitude. Not every run will be easy, but I'm grateful for every step I can take! Enjoy your step back week!
Every run is a good run. Every run is a good run. Every run is a good run… I thought if I kept typing it, I might be able to think it!! Love, love, love your attitude!
You are right about what a difference our attitude can make. I loved loved loved my recent half but when I look at my stats it was about 10th or 11th down for time out of my 14 halves. But I put it in perspective and was thrilled. Now I can't always do that but it makes life sweeter when I can.
i think it's really easy to forget that we choose to run and are lucky to be able to run. good for you keeping on the positive
Great attitude to have.
