I have a plan (and a beer)

June 27, 2011 by MCM Mama 15 Comments

Today, I can walk without limping.  I’m still sore and I have no intention of running today (except possibly behind Shoo as he attempts to learn to ride a bike), but I can walk with a normal stride with only minor soreness.  Yesterday, I was stiff and limping and every step hurt.

My plan:

Step 1:  Try not to re-injure myself while playing with Shoo today
Step 2:  Hit up the gym tomorrow in my Zemgear shoes and give the bikes and elliptical a try.  If nothing hurts, maybe do a lap around the indoor track, just to see how it goes.
Step 3:  Hit up the gym again on Wednesday for a little bike, a little elliptical, some lower body weights and *fingers crossed* a short run.
Step 4:  Hit the pool with Shoo on Thursday.  While this won’t be a true workout (have you ever tried to swim with a 5 year old?  yeah), hopefully I can work my legs a bit.
Step 5:  Go for a real run on Friday.
Step 6:  If at any point my calf screams at me, I will stop, cry, throw things, and find a beer.

Yay for not limping today. Let's hope the trend continues, and you get to enjoy a beer out of pleasure instead of desperation.

Glad you are starting to feel better – hope you are feeling 100% in no time. Have fun this week and good luck with Shoo on the bike!

Start with step 6, and repeat 6-8 times. Then by the time you get to step 2, you most definitely will not feel any pain.

Here's to hoping that you will not have to scream and throw things. Been there, done that. 🙂

The pool is probably a good idea anyway, the cool but not cold water, extended period of time "soaking".. you know? That calf needs to GET with the PROGRAM.AND I think, if the calf doesn't hurt on any given day, the plan needs to be a celebratory beer. Just sayin'.

I like your plan, but think everything would make more sense if you START with the beer and go from there.
