The MCM ends with a run up the hill to Iwo Jima. One of my IRL runner friends has been hounding me to run it, just so I know the hill and so it doesn’t intimidate me at the end. Iwo Jima is almost exactly three miles from my house, so I figured it would be a good way to get in my planned 6 miles. I’m obviously not very bright.
My legs were a bit sore and tired from yesterday afternoon’s run, so I decided to aim for 10-10:30 for my pace. This worked out great on the way there. Because, you know, Iwo Jima is three miles DOWNHILL from my house.
The run up Iwo Jima wasn’t bad at all. Compared to the hills I’ve been running for training, it was pretty small. Now, I know I’ll be in considerably more pain at the end of 26 than I was today, but it’s one of those hills you just get up fast ’cause it’s not too long. That’s the plan anyways. We’ll check out reality in a few weeks.
The next three miles back to my house? Well, those totally sucked. There was one hill that I remember walking up when I was 8 months pregnant with Shoo. At the time, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it up. I’m not sure I moved much faster running up it today. Ugh. Surprisingly though, I did manage to finish the 6 miles in 59:55.
Dang girl, you are fast! Great job on the 5 & 6 back to back. Very good conditioning for that big run coming up.
nice job!i’m so afraid of hills in NY…since I havent been able to do much in the way of hill training due to knee…somehow i will power through it i guess and deal with the pain after :o)
I most excellent job! Way to tackle those hills ;D ;D
You ARE fast! I remember when I ran MCM in ’04 once I found my family, I looked at my daughter and said, “Did we just run up a hill to finish?” My brain and legs were telling me that it was a hill but my adrenaline wasn’t caring! Plus it’s SOOOOO awesome to get to the top and have the handsome marine put your finisher medal around your neck 😉
That’s still pretty fast, especially for uphill!
Good job – and that was with hills too – Woot!
That is a great time for a 6 miler with a big hill. Nice work!
