My legs feel great. My toe is nearly healed. The weather is beautiful.
But I won’t be out there today. :o(
I have a nasty cold. If it were just a stuffy head or sore throat, I’d be out there. But I have the COUGH. You know the one. The cough where, once you start, you just can’t stop. The one where you nearly pee your pants. Or throw up. The one where your abs feel like you did a million situps.
Yeah, that cough. I’m afraid that if I run, I’d start coughing and never stop.
I’ve tried honey, I’ve tried steam, heck, I’ve even taken cold medicine with DM in it (and I DON’T take cold medicine, so yeah, I’m that desperate.). The DM gets me to a point where I only cough once every 5 minutes or so, instead of constantly. Got any natural remedies? Any “my grandma swears by” solutions? I’ll try ’em because if this doesn’t become a running blog again soon, I may just lose what little sanity I have left.
That sounds horrible. Did I read somewhere that after a long run—like a marathon perhaps— that your immunity is a bit compromised for a few days? You are smart not to run with anything below the neck. I’m sure your are itching to get back.I’m going to e-mail my friend Tammy the link to your MCM story. She just ran Chicago and your experiences were very similar!
Have you tried Mucinex? Not sure of spelling. But I’ve heard that works well for loosening up the mucus. And while it is smart to not run with that, I always find that running helps me de-congest and get rid of some of that gunk. Seems to loosen it up; although, that does mean some nasty lugies along the running path!Hope you feel better soon!
YUCK! It’s that time of year, huh. I feel your pain (kinda) my nose has been running for the past 3 days. Thankfully no cough though. Hang in there chica!
If your cough is producing stuff that you’re coughing up, I would try Mucinex. But if it keeps up after the Mucinex, go the doctor. I’d hate to think you have bronchitis!Feel better!
I used simply saline a million times a day to flush out my sinuses which was causing my cough. I know you have the cold already but zycam works well to shorten the cold.I hope you feel better soon!
I don’t have any remedies other than time…
Yuck. I hate that cough. I drink the Throat Coat tea (is it Traditional Medicinals? Yogi Tea? I forget, but you can get it at Whole Foods) but I don’t think it actually helps. Just makes the coughing more productive.
Apple Cider Vinegar!! A year or two ago both Lexie & I had bad coughs and I did a ton of googling to find something natural and kid-safe. Came up with honey, grape juice and apple cider vinegar. I mixed them all-together (Lexie's weird, she doesn't like honey, so I had to hide it in the grape juice, I had to hide the ACV in grape juice in order for ME to get it down) and started dosing us and it killed the cough in record time.Cinnamon and honey together are in general a good immune booster, so that's another option that falls into the can't hurt, might help category LOL.
Ps. I also find homeopathics to be very effective IF you can figure out the right one (I find single remedies work better than the general “cough” or “flu” or whatever ones). I generally go onto the 1-800-homeopathy site and do a search for symptoms then read the descriptions of all the single remedies that come up and narrow it down to one or two that best fit my specific symptoms (so in your case, I’d search on “cough” and then the descriptions will specify, dry, wet, etc so narrow it down accordingly) and take those.
I wish I had a home remedy, but alas, I’ve had the same thing before and had to resort to a prescription. It could be bronchitis. You may be forced to try that route. Good luck with that!
