I’m pretty sure she’s hiding under the mess in my house.
I’m a pretty laid back person. Clutter and chaos don’t tend to bother me.
But apparently, even I have my limits.
After almost two weeks off of school (thanks to a tummy bug + spring break + teacher work day), the boys went back to school yesterday. I planned to go to yoga or go for a long run. Instead, except for a small amount of work for my job and a 3.5 mile run, I spent my entire day organizing my house. The.entire.day. And I’m not done.
I threw out an entire trashbag of stuff. I packed up four boxes of outgrown toys. I gave away over 100 CD jewel cases. And my house is still overflowing.
And I killed my shredder.
(Dear Credit Card companies,
If I didn’t request your card, chances are I don’t need it. Neither does my 10 year old. Or my 6 year old. Or my dead cat. Please stop sending me all this damn paper. Please and thank you!
Signed,
Drowning in paper)
So, today I’ll be doing more of the same. I’ll sneak in a run at some point, but first I’m going to find my dining room table. And I’m hoping that in that clutter, I’ll find something interesting to write about.
Do you ever reach a point of “just can’t take it anymore?” What are your tricks for controlling the clutter?
I reach that point all the time. It seems the clutter just keeps coming no matter what I do. To combat it, I get frustrated, grab a garbage bag and start tossing. I seriously hate all those stupid credit card apps that come in the mail. My shredder is on overdrive!
Sadly if you don’t get them in your mailbox, they’ll be in your Inbox…
Omg, I need to do this SO BADLY. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately, specifically in my closet. I need to find a day where I can just ditch half of everything I own!
Wow! Good for you! My husband is actually much better at this than I am… when a bunch of new things come into the house, he always wants to find some stuff to get rid of. It’s really helpful because I can put it off and then be swamped and overwhelmed. We also just downsized in our move last summer as we’re only in TX for two years, so we’re renting a small place and that helped us get rid of lots of stuff, too. Not that I recommend moving, but it works. 🙂
Doesn’t it feel good to get organised?! Every so often I do what you did and sweep through the house like a whirlwind getting rid of stuff. Generally my rule of thumb is – if we haven’t used it for a year we probably don’t need it.
We fight with it regularly. I wound up making a couple of boxes of cc apps, receipts, statements, etc, and designated them all for “burn”, so that my shredder didn’t get burned..
I so need to go on a clutter purge through my house! And I so hear you on the credit card offers – enough already!
Good for you for plowing through it!!
i am one of those people that will mail back the credit card offer envelope… stuffed with various bits of my other junk mail haha. i hope it costs the credit card company money and helps the USPS earn a little more back? that’s my theory anyway.
I move around a lot / travel a lot for work, so I have downsized to the max. When you only own a few of everything, it really helps. When you have to wash a dish to use one, you tend to not have a lot of dirty dishes. I suggest it!
