I may be dating myself here, but remember the old glass thermometers where the mercury would move up as the temperature went up and then go down as the temp dropped? My mojo has been a lot like that this winter.
Virginia is known for having random warm days in the middle of winter. That’s really not that unusual. What’s been unusual this year is that we’ve had random cold days thrown in to a really mild, bordering on warm, winter. My body has never really acclimated to being cold. I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve actually run NEEDING long tights (and one of those I needed two pairs LOL).
Because of that, anytime the mercury drops, my desire to run goes with it. After a long, windy, rainy drive home on Sunday, I just couldn’t get motivated to move. I was stiff from 6 hours in the car, I was chilly because the house got down to 59 degrees while we were gone. I just couldn’t make myself run in the wind. No idea why I couldn’t make it down to the treadmill (maybe because I didn’t start the day with a running bra? LOL)
Yesterday was again cold and windy. I spent the majority of the school day at Mount Vernon with Jones’ class. It was interesting and informative (I heart living in an area with so much important historical stuff), but I was thoroughly chilled by the time I was done. I had two windows during the day when I could have run a short run, but yeah, it didn’t happen. Of course, since I was going on a field trip, I showered and wore “street” clothes. (Not sure why I cared – 4th grade boys are kind of smelly. No one would have noticed my lack of showering.)
Apparently I need to invest in a running bra that looks like a normal bra under clothes, since my running bra is the holder of the key to the run these days.
As you might guess, I have one on this morning. There will be a run of some sort today. ;o)
I’ve had to embrace cold weather running, living in Syracuse. It’s gotten to the point that I won’t run outside sometimes in the summer, because 80 degrees is way too HOT! : )
Funny I put a sports bra on in the morning too as some kind of reminder that I am running that day! LOL! Hope you get your run in 🙂
Good luck! Have a great run.
You absolutely can’t run without a running bra. I totally get that. But are there running bras that look good under street clothes? Mine tend to make me look like I have a pretty flat mono-boob.

I totally wear a running bra all day long just because it’s one less thing to change out of before squeezing in a run! 🙂
Whenever I am in DC I think how lucky the teachers and students are for great field trips. And so many of them are free.
I’ve been really getting into running bras lately and experimenting with new types (read: padded bras).
The mercury thermometers were like the compact florescent lightbulb of my youth. Something that everyone had in their house, but if you broke it, you needed to immediately evacuate and call the EPA to come in and clean it up. I took those thermometer warnings very seriously as a kid.
YES!!!
and Im dating myself with you.
I, too, wish the weather around here were more consistent! Hope you enjoyed your run yesterday!
