Yeah, not so much. I’m not really a “resolution” kind of girl. I mean, really? “Spend more time with family and friends?” (I see plenty of my kids thankyouverymuch) “Fit in Fitness?” (Think I’ve got that one covered.) “Get Organized?” (How ’bout we all just accept that I’m a train wreck and move on.)
No, I’m not making resolutions.
I am, however, making goals. SMART goals. Because you aren’t going to get anywhere if you don’t have a destination.
I liked last year’s “how not to have my head pop off from stress” style of goals. I’m a whole lot less stressed this year, but there’s always room for improvement. So,without further ado, here are my 2012 goals.
Running
- Continue to run injury free in 2012. LISTEN to my body and visit my chiro as needed.
- Build my “base mileage” to at least 30 miles per week. Then consider various training options.
- Run a “balls to the wall, leave it all on the course, go right up to the puke threshold (maybe beyond)” 5k at the Love the Run You’re with 5k in February.
- Run races in at least 4 states – Hoping for some blogging buddy meetups in Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and either Connecticut, Rhode Island, or Massachusetts.

I haven’t looked like this at the end of a race in a while. |
Fitness/Physical Health
- Keep up the 30 minutes of intentional movement every day that I started on December 1.
- Get the kids moving with me.
- Keep my focus on veggies and fruits. Continue to strive for 7 a day every day.
- Try one new fitness activity this year. (I’d like to say each month but part of being SMART is being realistic LOL)
- Bike enough to make it worth buying a new bike.
It’d be nice to actually be able to shift gears… |
Business
- Continue working for my awesome boss at my job that I enjoy. (Working for someone you’ve been friends with since you were 19 does not suck.)
- Continue to grow my relationship with my local running store, as a volunteer and a coach. (I actually have a specific goal here, but it’s still under wraps.)
- Even though I’m no longer running a coaching business, keep working with moms who want to get back in shape/start running as a volunteer activity.
Personal
- Join BURP (a local homebrew club).
- Brew a batch of beer at home.
- Go out with Beer Geek without the kids at least once every two weeks.
- Take a trip with Beer Geek.
- Continue to slowly clean out the clutter in our house. Living someplace for 14 years tends to fill a place up LOL.

I need more of this in my life. |
I realize that none of my goals are earth shattering, but that’s ok. I’m at the point where just having a drama free year where I get in lots of happy miles will be enough. Sure, I’d love to PR. I’d love to run another marathon. But if they don’t happen, I’ve got a pretty good life going and I’m gonna just keep on keeping on.
dang.you are organized planned out and ready to rock your 2012.My absolute fave part is the 30 min of intentional movement. That changed my life and Im carrying in onward into 2012 too.
come to Massachusetts and I will come and run the race with you:)
I think they are fabulous goals! Wow, you'll be all around the country in 2012. Good luck!
I love your goals. Especially the new bike one. I feel i biked enough last year to justify a road bike this year. Can't wait to see where you race in New England.
Goals are the way to go! I have spent last year decluttering. That is really a long term goal and something that I would LOVE to consider a habit someday!Have fun!
"I've got a pretty good life going and I'm gonna just keep on keeping on."This is the best resolution I've read thus far.
I love your goals. I'm excited to see you tackle them all this year.I am also pumped to run Blue Ridge with you. Just saying.
I love your goals. They are SMART and realistic.
I feel the same way about goals over resolutions… yours look very attainable. Hope you can get a new bike! 🙂
You had me at running injury free!!!!!!
Your goals sound a lot like mine. We're both heading in the right direction – we just have a few details to tweak!
i love your goals in every category, and could not agree with you more about goals vs. resolutions. i think it's going to be a great year!!
those are great goals – good luck!
lemme know when you want to go bike shopping. 🙂
Great goals! Where are you running in Ohio? I'll be at the Capital City Half in May.
I love the SMART goals. Hope 2012 is a great year.
Looks good to me! Simple, realistic but also inspiring and motivating. Here's to a great year ahead!
