I’m a librarian. I no longer work full time as one, but once a librarian, always a librarian. While I would never turn down a massage, my favorite way to pamper myself is to hide away from all my responsibilities with a good book. In fact, in recent years, my patience for lines and waiting has improved immensely now that I can open my Kindle App and read a book while I wait. It’s like a mini vacation in the middle of chaos.
So, for the Friday Five 2.0 “pampering” link up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness, here are five books that are currently on my (virtual) nightstand or my library hold list. (I’m a librarian. I pretty much only buy books if I can’t borrow them. All Amazon links below are affiliate links. The more you buy, the more books I can read LOL.)
- Hidden Figures – I LOVED this movie. I’m not really a movie person, but I was actually able to sit through the whole thing without getting bored or falling asleep. I’m looking forward to learning more background.
- Meb for Mortals – I’ve been wanting to read this book for AGES. Every time I hear stories about how nice he is, I’m more inclined to read it. After the Boston Marathon this year, I finally made it a priority to get it.
- Nowhere Near First – Author Corey Reese is a fellow Altra ambassador. He posts AMAZING pictures and is super supportive of all of us. And hey, he fuels with rice krispy treats sometimes too, which makes him ultra cool in my book.
- A Fighting Chance – I’m a fan of Elizabeth Warren and I’ve always enjoyed books about politics and history (my undergraduate degrees are actually in foreign affairs and economics with a minor in history). This book gets great reviews and I’m really interested in learning more about her life and her experiences with politics. (I actually have a huge list of politically focused books to read, but I tend to be only able to handle one from this genre at a time.)
- Hard-Core Twenty Four – Lest you think I only read “serious” things, I’ll confess to be chomping at the bit for this one. I love the Stephanie Plum series! I have a whole list of similar “mind candy” authors that I read when I just truly need a break from things.
I do love to read too — I need to take more time for it. I’ve read several not-so-memorable books lately but my recent favorites are A Man Called Ove and Small Great Things.
On your list, I”ve only read Cory Reese’s book but I’d put it at the top of the pile if I were you. And yes, for me reading is one of the best ways I pamper myself. I love to read.
A book that is on my list is the new Dean Karnazas book. A friend even gave it to me as a gift, so I definitely have to read it soon because I’m sure he will be asking if I have read it.
I love to read too, and love my Kindle. I read so much and apartments don’t have much space, and my Kindle is perfect to store all that. The last book I read was the Lady in the Smoke by a debut author.
I just got my library hold of Turbo Twenty-Three… I didn’t know Twenty-Four was out there already! (surfing to library site now).
Avid reader here too! My TBR shelf is a whole bookcase and it drive hubby crazy at times. lol I need to pick up Meb’s book for sure.
If you haven’t read “All the Light We Cannot See” I recommend it! I’m about halfway through and love this WWII historical fictional novel by Anthony Doerr. Happy reading!
