Since I ran yesterday, today I planned to “cross train” by raking the leaves in our yard. We have 6 100+ year old Oak trees that drop a phenomenal amount of leaves every year. I enjoy raking and I figured the boys could play or ride bikes/trikes or help me. Yeah, not so much. I think they lasted a half hour before I was afraid they’d hurt each other or make me so angry I’d hurt them. I decided to take them to a playground, but Beer Geek offered to do it, so I got to cross train by running up and down the stairs of our house with laundry baskets LOL. Not fun, but at least all the laundry is done and mostly put away.

I need some new shoes. Not running shoes – I have two “in use” pairs and a new pair still in its box. I need nice shoes. Now, I have at least 50 pairs of shoes (Beer Geek calls me his little Imelda), but we recently started going to church again and I don’t have fall church shoes. I like to wear skirts to church and I have no shoes that work between sandal weather and boots weather. I’m not even sure what I’m looking for, so I see a trip to DSW in my future. Beer Geek just rolled his eyes when I told him.

I just emailed Quadrathon my weight for his weight loss challenge. I’m sure I didn’t win this week. I’m back to the top of my “safety zone”, but it’s slow going here. I keep telling myself that quick weight loss in the past hasn’t stayed off. I’m hoping that slow loss, while still having the occasional beer and dessert, will result in a weight I can maintain.

And a wee bit of running related chatter… I signed up for the neighborhood Turkey Trot. I don’t generally like 5Ks, but this one literally runs past my house. It’s chip timed this year and I’m hoping to PR, so I need to get moving on the speedwork. I also found three half marathons in the spring that I want to do. This one in March, this one in April and this one or this one in May.
The turkey trot I run goes right by my house as well. It’s probably my favorite race of the year; I’m not exactly sure why — maybe because it feels like tradition at this point.
Raking leaves is DEF cross training. It makes me work up a sweat every time LMAO!I’m debating a Turkey Trot. I really need to Shave My 5k though . . .oy. What to do, what to do. Maybe if the one around here went passed my house the decision would be easier HAHA
Housework TOTALLY counts as cross-training! Good luck with the HMs this spring. I can’t wait for warmer weather, and it’s only November.
Good luck on the 5k. Sounds like a good plan!
Raking and loads of laundry definitely sounds like more work than a run to me. In fact usually I use running as an excuse NOT to do laundry and other housework. Guess maybe that’s harder after you have kids. Thanks for the race links– I’ve already bookmarked a few of them. Since I’m running a spring marathon I’m not sure if I’ll end up running any but they look like fun!
After a marathon, you’re not supposed to cross train. You UN-train.
So, what’s your speedwork plan? I’ve got a Turkey Trot this weekend and a Jingle Bell Jog on Dec. 6 and I need to be working some in, too!Have fun with the shoe shopping! I think I shop for running attire way more than regular stuff and on many a Sunday morning I realize I have almost nothing non-athletic to wear (luckily my church is contemporary and casual!). But still–I’d feel dumb in my Asics and a technical shirt. (Glad I’m a stay-at-home mom.)
Raking is good, it’s the bagging I hate. Oooh, new shoes. Always a good thing. How cool that you get to race on Turkey Day. That will burn off at least one slice of pumpkin pie. 🙂
