Virginia currently has a pretty weak “shelter in place” going on. It’s definitely not as strict as I’ve seen in some states and cities and yet, people are still breaking the rules. We’ve been doing our best to stay home. I can’t control your choices, but I can mine. Last week that meant leaving the house twice for curbside pickup of things we needed. It feels weird to have not gone in any place other than my house in almost two weeks.
I am joining Marcia for some Runfessions this week, but I runfess that I don’t have much running related. So instead, I am sharing my random thoughts that I have been sharing on my personal Facebook page. My personal rule for Facebook is to share stupid and amusing things for the most part. (And occasionally important facts but really I prefer to be upbeat. It’s who I am.) So here are the safe for public consumption random thoughts I’ve had this month…

- When you arrive home from a work trip at midnight and your phone decides not to switch back to eastern time, you know it’s going to be a very Monday kind of day. The kid opted to take the tardy rather than have me walk him in. Something about looking like I’d been on an all night bender…
- Some days it pays to live in a house full of boys. The toilet paper is mine! All mine!
- Social distancing/avoiding hot spots = possibly purchasing a medical staple remover from Amazon so as not to have to go to back to the urgent care.
- That moment when you realize that the random sweet potatoes you pulled from the freezer to throw your stir fry over have marshmallows in them…
- J: Do we have any plans tomorrow?
Me: Well, I was thinking I’d send out some “happy quarantine” cards since I never got around to mailing the holiday cards… - My hands are awful from all the hand washing. I finally broke down and used aquaphor and now I’m a greasy mess. And of course, immediately after I did that, I discovered some regular lotion.
- We ordered pizza via Door Dash and asked that it be left on the front steps. She left it up against our outer door – which opens out.
- I just asked my mom where to order cucumber seeds so I can grow cucumbers to keep the roaches alive. Since I kill every plant I encounter, this likely will not work.
- I finally got all the way to the bottom of my “to file” box. There were financial statements from 2011. Apparently it’s been 9 years since I actually had all of the filing done…
- We have lived near a cemetery for the last 20+ years. I have only run in it a handful of times over the years. This week I’ve been in it 3 times.
- I feel like I’ve become a hunter/gatherer. Trying to figure out getting specific foods has become a significant part of my thought process. “Shhh, we are hunting the wild oreo in its home environment…”
- I think I need to put a big sign up each morning with what day it is. None of us were on the same day today until we discussed it at dinner.

I’m so with you. The days have totally run together. I still can’t believe how lucky we were to get ZOOMA Texas off before all hell broke loose. People are VERY good about distancing where I live. In the city not so much, although now they’re really enforcing it.
It’s been pretty crazy! Re the not wanting to go back to urgent care-I let my husband take out some stitches on my chest from a minor dermatological thing yesterday. He enjoyed playing Dr way more than I did! Join some of our virtual MRTT events!
A good dose of humor is really what we need right now. I waver between wanting all the funny things, and then all the political/news/information things. Balance, right?
Sending good thoughts. It’s a tough road, right now.
Oh Erika, thanks for the laughs 😉 I try to stay upbeat and optimistic, (often at the risk of being scorned for not taking things seriously). Sorry, there’s already too much “Serious” stuff among us, we all need to smile once in awhile, right?
My hands are red and chapped from all the hand washing too. Luckily, right before the crisis, I bought some really nice cucumber-scented hald lotion. Now using it religiously!
LOL! I’ve worked from home (or just been home) a long time, so I’m pretty good for the most part about knowing which day its.
My hands are so dry, too! I mean, I always washed my hands, but apparently all those years I wasn’t doing it correctly.
There is just me & my husband. Ok, occasionally he does have to go No. 2, LOL!
I’ve loved these FB posts throughout the month.
O’Keefe’s working hands has been my hands’ saving grace throughout many winters. Highly endorse. Non greasy, non stinky
