Last year I was disappointed both by my speed and by Virginia’s moderate weather. This year, my speed still pretty much sucked, but at least Virginia came through for me.
95* with a “feels like” of 99*. Yes, just what one needs to sweat some thorns off…
I prepared for the race by sending Beer Geek out of town, which guaranteed not enough pre-race sleep and that my run would be in the hottest part of the day when Shoo was at a friend’s house. I was ready!
Like many elite female racers, I opted to go shirtless and wore my Wave Universe racing flats (review soon!). The first mile was an easy 10:34, including a pretty major hill and not a lot of shade. Mile 2 started out at a blistering fast 9:36, but was quickly shut down by intestinal distress that necessitated a stop back at the homestead. Mile 3 was little more than a forced march by a tired overheated body. Final time? Something around 32. Sometimes you just have to celebrate that it wasn’t a DNF. (At the end, I ran the world’s slowest 100 meters as part of Jess’ Virtual Games.)
And don’t think I didn’t consider using the “spray tan” feature on my photo editor to darken my super white belly…
Thanks, Adam, for giving me a reason to run on a super hot day.
Good job on running on a super hot day!
Nice run and review! Sweat you did for sure. I always enjoy the virtual races. Well done!
Sweating anything off around here is no problem. I’m about to head to Vermont. It will be cooler running for sure.
Nice run! Wow, that was a very hot time of the day to run!
