In Honor of Tall Mom’s Virtual Race to raise money for Marathon for the Cure, I’m writing this with a pink background. It may be a hideous failure LOL.
I was so excited about this race that I did it three times and FAILED to get a decent time any of those times. Yesterday was my first attempt and I did it in the form of mile repeats. One mile warm-up – 10:09, mile 2 – 8:37, rest interval (.53 miles) – 5:26, mile 3 – 8:57 (so part of this, thank goodness for Garmin). Results for 3.1 miles? 28:52.
I then ran another 3.1 because my training plan called for 6 miles. By this point, I’d wasted what little speed I had to begin with and it was hot and I was cranky, so my result for the second 3.1 were 33:45. (Notice how there were no more repeats, sigh) I think that may be my slowest 5k since the last five kilometers of one of my 20 mile training runs. Oy.
Finally, this morning, I hit the treadmill for a quick run and managed to knock out the 3.1 in 27:35. Not a PW (see above), but certainly not a PB. Even worse, I don’t have any pictures and I didn’t make a race bib. Sorry Tall Mom, it’s just been one of those weeks.
Three Things Thursday:
1. I’ve spent much of my free time this week trying to buy a tie for Jones for his First Communion. He’s never worn a tie before, so I have no idea if he’ll actually even end up wearing it. Right now, I have almost $200 worth of ties and dress shirts for him to try. I, obviously, would like him to choose the tie/shirt combo that cost $12.99, but if he’s anything like me he’ll be wearing the expensive tie and shirt I found at Nord.stroms. Beer Geek jokes that I can walk into any store and immediately pick out the most expensive thing, without looking at price tags. Thankfully, I’m too cheap to ever actually buy anything unless it’s on sale, preferably clearance LOL.
2. I set up a Facebook page for MCM Mama. I’ve been posting my blog updates on my personal FB page, but I figure not all of my friends really want to hear about my running. This way they can choose to see it if they want to. I still need to come up with a good picture that ties together my love of beer and love of running. Hmm, maybe I should have a contest and see who can come up with the best picture…
3. I won the “virtual race” over The Last Mile Lounge. Thank you to all my faithful readers for going over there and voting for me. I am way too excited about the fact that I won a t-shirt. Speaking of faithful readers, I’m so excited to hit 140. I love round numbers! Thanks for joining me on my adventures. Soon, the marathon will be over and there’ll be more beer and less running. Should be a fun time. ;o)
Congrats on winning Jamoosh's contest! You are so lucky to have that awesome t-shirt:) Congrats on your 140 followers! I love your blog and can't wait for the future beer posts!I am checking into the Madison Mini in August…if it is not the weekend that my hubby has a golfing trip I will plan on running it:)
Congrats on the win! Whoo hoo! Maybe your FB page pic could have a picture of you running in your Last Mile Brewing shirt? Just a thought since it does combine the two ;pNice job on the 5K – you stuck it out and that is all that counts!
I just started reading Jamoosh's blog, so didn't get there in time to vote, sorry! Congrats on winning, though! Good luck on the shirt and tie. We had First Communion this year as well (I have to say that Girls, while more expensive, are far easier to dress for this occasion!) Hopefully he'll pick a good one!
So have you thought about what your first beer will be post-race??Great work on the 5K (x3). At least you got it done!
YAY for you!Love the pink – worked perfectly!!
Yay for the win! I can't believe that you ran the race 3 times and still weren't happy … too funny!
Congrats on the big win! And on the 5K 3 times over. Looking forward to the beer posts ๐
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you won, blah, blah, blah…Kidding. Congrats! You can probably use the shirt more than I would anyway.
Not a t-shirt; a race ready technical shirt!
That virtual was pretty hotly contested. Congrats on the win!
CONGRATS on the win!!!! All the pink makes me smile ๐
Hey, your 5K today was a PR out of the 3. ๐ You definitely have to post a pic of you sporting the t-shirt when you get it!
Yay to you on winning and the 5k! Congrats on the First Communion – such a wonderful experience!I'm a fan!
Congrats at winning the t-shirt. I am ashamed to say I was a DNS!
there should be a prize for most times completing a virtual race. Great job x3 ๐ Did you set up a completely new account to start your facebook page I have been thinking about starting one also separate from my personal page for those interested in my running ventures? ๐
i like the facebook page idea for you blog. that seems like a good way to let peeps read your blog.and congrats on 140! woo-hoo!
Love the pink, it looks great! I loved the part of your run when you got hot and cranky, I hate when that happens but it often does and I can't stand it ๐ !
Thanks for running for the Cure. I did not make it out there for a run today… OOPS!! Guess I was too busy being race director..

congrats on the virtual race report! For your FB pic, maybe you can somehow make-shift fit a beer glass into a handheld carrier and take a pic with you "running" with it ? or sipping from it? Good job on the 5K!
Congrats on the Last Mile Lounge victory! It was looking like it might get pretty bloody there towards the end. :)Also, your slowest 5k time is about my average 5k time. So don't worry–there is always someone slower. And that someone is me.
You crack me up! with the running more than once thing! and you should make shoes decorated from beer tops or something for your picture!
Congrats on the run and tshirt! Sweeettt..
Aww, first communion, so sweet and grown up! :-)Congrats on 140 followers! That's awesome! I love even numbers too! Esp with the TV volume! :-PHave a nice weekend and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!
Congrats on the t-shirt win. Things like that can make a girl's week. With 26.2 miles to run next weekend, maybe a great running/beer logo will come to you then. Oh, and beer counts as carb-loading and should be a part of my 'plan' for this week, right?
Whoohoo! Congrats on the wiN! Have a great weekend, and happy Mother's Day!
YEAH!!!!!
Aww lots of exciting stuff going on in your life! And YEAH that technical shirt is so awesome. Congrats again!
