- Today I ran 10 wonderful miles. Too bad my actual distance was 11 miles. I planned to do 10-12 miles at an easy pace on a really hilly route. Physically, it’s a very challenging route with constant ups and downs. Mentally, I like it because it’s an out and back and has some nice landmarks that help break it up. 8 of my miles fell between 9:50 and 10:06, which was right were I was trying to be. Pretty amazing, considering the hills. My fastest mile was a 9:28, where I sprinted to make a light. My slowest in the first 10 was 10:18, where I hit a couple of red lights. Then I hit mile 11. My body just stopped. My quads were screaming, I was tired and hot, my water bottle was near empty. I was just done. I managed to finish it in 11:02, but if I hadn’t needed to do that mile in order to get home, I would have probably not done it.
- I ran with the new sunglasses again today. I think almost everyone recommended the Hex in black and, indeed, that’s the pair I had chosen. I really wanted to love the Hex in the purple but I have to admit, I’m not really a brightly colored accessory kind of girl. Despite sweat rolling down my face, the sunglasses did great. I’ll write a longer review this weekend.*
- I am participating in Amanda’s newest challenge, the “3 Changes Challenge“. I’ve been feeling a bit stuck in a rut, so I’m hoping this will get me out of that. My changes are:
1. ) Start drinking a glass of water with every meal, plus a couple in between. I never drink enough water and as we approach summer, I really need to work on this. I figure if I drink a 12 oz glass of water with each meal, I’ve already hit 36 oz for the day. It shouldn’t be too hard to get from there to 64.
2.) Stop mindless snacking between school pickup and dinner. As I’m making lunch for the next day and starting dinner, I often find myself snacking on whatever comes to hand. So far, thanks to all the running, this snacking hasn’t led to much in the way of weight gain, but I can see it happening in the future. Plus, if I am hungry, I’d like to try harder to fill the need with fruits and veggies instead of plantain chips and pretzels.
3.) Start doing one thing each day that is just for me that does not involve the computer or running. I used to read all the time. I used to do cross stitch. I know there were other things, but the combination of two young kids and running so much has pushed everything else to the side. I’m trying to get back in the habit of sitting down for 15 minutes and doing something I want to do, instead of constantly hitting up facebook or blogs. This has been the hardest of the three so far, as I find myself getting majorly behind on my blog reader.
*The Hex sunglasses were given to me for review, opinions are my own.
Your glasses sound great!I too am guilty of your second challenge. Snacking starts mid afternoon and it's so hard to get a handle on it!
the hex glasses are very nice if only they came in prescription glasses. I have a habit of snacking while I cook dinner sometimes I chew gum while i cook since I am already chewing I don't so much feel then need to snack on anything. 🙂
Those sound like great goals. I am a big offender of the mindless snacking so I need to follow your example!
You're #3 is something I need to consider adopting for myself!
I have to jump on this challenge wagon….and great run!
10 good miles out of 11 isn't bad . . . isn't it funny how a bad last mile can make the whole run feel a little off?I need to be more consistent on drinking water. I do good on days when I'm just sitting in my office, other days, not so much!
Congrats on the strong 10 miles – it's nice that your bad mile was at the end and didn't show up at mile 3!
Great job on the run! Good luck with your three challenges/changes. I snack horrendously. Hoping that P90X will motivate me to eat better so I can see those results!
Great job on the run! Too bad about that last mile… I guess your body only wanted to run the 10. Good luck with the 3 changes challenge. Love your goals.
Well, a wonderful 10 is a good thing. Just forget about that last mile. Like your goals!
Somedays the body just doesn't want to go anymore regardless of what you need to do! Good job sticking with it!And those all look like good changes/goals. I find it so difficult to stay away from the computer especially with the Google reader blowing up!
Good choice on the glasses, and great run!! Your goals rock too! 🙂
I love your three things, awesome – like your run!
I am glad that the shades worked out for you:) I love your list of things…I should be doing the same thing! I need to start drinking more water to help me stay hydrated…this is one of my big problems. Nice run!
Everybody is on board with the 3 things challenge. I am not motivated and should be. I liked your list.
What a cool challenge. Good luck!
I love your changes! # 3 would be hard for me! Good luck. The sunglasses sound good! I HAVE to have some on when it is sunny. The light kills my eyes!
