1. I have been running with a small group of women a few times now. I’m coaching them to a strong finish in a local 5k. I’ve discovered that I absolutely love running with new runners. For most of my running friends, finishing a three mile run is no big deal and a lot of times we finish it thinking we could have run faster. Seeing how proud these women are of just finishing reminds me of what running is all about. It has strengthened my desire to make coaching “newbies” my new career.
2. I am no longer writing the Metro DC Mom blog. For a various reasons, the project has been canceled. While I did enjoy the experience, I’m actually kind of relieved. It was getting difficult to maintain two blogs and actually participate in the blog world. I missed having time to actually read everyone’s blogs on a regular basis. I’m also looking forward to having more free time as I begin my pursuit of NASM certification.
3. Sometimes it amuses me that the most “career applicable” thing that I did in the past was to be manager of my high school track team. I didn’t run, I just liked hanging out with all the runners. I never would have guessed that someday I’d not only be running, but also coaching runners. Only took me a little over 20 years (since high school) to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.
Like some others in the blogosphere, I got the chance to design a bumper sticker over at Build a Sign. Life has been crazy busy and I’m not at all artistic, so Megan was even nice enough to design it for me. She’s offered me 50 to share with you all, so email me at mom2shoo at gmail.com if you want one. (I know SUAR has all the cool spots already…)
love it….i would love love one!
It's so inspiring to hear all the different ways that people come to running. I love the path that you have taken…there was a runner in you back then, you just didn't know it yet!Congrats on finding the call to help new runners. It's really a great thing you're doing!!
I too find running w newbies is angreat experience inso want to get my rrca coach but no class offered in my area
I felt the same thing about coaching girls on the run. It was so rewarding to see how excited the girls felt about their running accomplishments!
I also love running with new runners. I've been doing that a lot this past year and when they cross that finish line, there is nothing like it.I'd like one of your stickers. I'll e-mail you.
HA, I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be. I guess Hollywood will have to wait! Twenty years isn't so long to figure it out.
Love it!! Will email you! And I am so glad that you are getting satisfaction out of the coaching. You are amazing at it!
So inspiring that you have found your spot in life. What a great place for you to be.
awesome and so glad you've found something you love to do!! Then its not work right?!
I used to contemplate creating a second blog for kid-related stories, etc, but the thought of maintaining 2 blogs always seemed too daunting for me. So, that means my current blog ends up being a mish-mash of stuff beyond running. Eh, I figure it's my blog, I can do what I want!
Cool bumper sticker! Very appropriate. Hopefully you will find yourself with some more "free time" now that you are finished with the other blog… ehhh, who am I kidding? There is no such thing as free time in your life. π
Hey it's never too late to figure out what you wanna do right?Love your sticker!
I imagine that you are a fabulous coach, and the satisfaction you must get seeing your clients finish a 5k will be a testament to your dedication to them, as well as instilling in yourself that this is where you were meant to be in life. Kudo's!

I totally know what you mean about new runners. They are so fun to coach and they progress so quickly that every day is like a PR for them!
if you maintain your enthusiasm about running with new runners, it will rub off on them and they may stick with it. so good job!
Hi! Megan emailed me about the bumper sticker offer and directed me here….. going to start following!
