Today on Tuesdays on the Run, Patty, April, and I are wondering: What healthy choices did you make over the Thanksgiving holiday? Nobody is perfect and I’ll be the first to admit I enjoyed a few too many beers (Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout ON TAP, people. Of course I had some!) Ahem.
I managed to make a small handful of healthy choices…
First, we started off the holiday by running our local Turkey Trot. And by running, I mean, Jones ran some and whined a lot. In the third mile, he told me he was completely miserable. I told him our goal for next year is to have him only be moderately miserable. I know, pass the Mom of the Year Award. He did, however, PR by seven minutes over his 2012 time and got immense satisfaction from passing someone in the last few seconds. Yes, he is my child. ;o)
I also made a few smart food choices – more veggies than meat and carbs on Thanksgiving, but that may have been balanced by a huge slice of pie. With whipped cream. Ah well, you win some, you lose some. Really, as far as food goes, the healthiest choice I made was to only treat Thursday and Friday as holidays. The rest of the weekend was my normal eating. Win!
But the best thing I did for myself? I ran 10 miles on Sunday!!! You may not have noticed, but I’ve only run 3 double digit runs since I finished ZOOMA Annapolis at the end of May. And yes, those of you following along at home, all 3 of those were at half marathons. I had not done a double digit training run since before I ran my first half marathon in March. Perhaps that’s why my last three half marathons sucked. (Ya think?) While I was on my runner’s high, I may have signed up for one more half marathon for 2014. Yes, yes, I did. And the madness continued on Cyber Monday as I signed up for more races.
I’ll be revealing my race calendar for 2015 soon. It’s looking all kinds of crazy! (But really, would you expect anything else from me?)
How are your plans for 2015 coming? Any races I should consider???
And have you entered my Lotta Breeze Capri Giveaway???

Sounds like a balanced weekend of good fun and exercise! That was smart to only treat a couple days like a holiday and the rest like regular days- it can be a slippery slope when we fall into the habit of treating everyday between Thanksgiving and New Years like a holiday!
I have a holiday policy of eating healthy at home. The only time I break that is if we have people over, but even then, I’m usually good about everything but the beer…
Sounds like a pretty healthy Thanksgiving! I’ve registered for almost all of my 2015 races, it’s a good mix of road running, triathlons and cycling! The race I’m most looking forward to is the Smuttynose Hampton Rockfest Half in October–it will be my first half since 2013 and it’s our wedding race!
Smuttynose is on my bucket list. I really want to get up there for that one sometime.
Congratulations on your 10 miler this weekend! It sounds like you had a great holiday!
Thanks, it was quite nice.
Especially proud that I ran 3 out of 4 days I was at my folks, including a 5-mile race on Thanksgiving Day. And passed up much of my parents’ carb-loaded offerings (it’s like a pre-race pasta party every.single.day) for fruit.
Great job!
It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without pie. Congrats on the 10 miler. I haven’t signed up for a single 2015 race yet…eeeeekkk! I still have 2 half marathons in December. I’m definitely doing a full in 2015 but need suggestions. I want an easy course. 😉
Ooh, which ones in December???
Yup, desserts do tend to wipe out and good intentions, and I made the desserts for Thanksgiving (again). I do not make healthy desserts, what’s the point? I was back on track Friday with yoga since Thursday was my rest day.
Sometimes you just need decadent…
Turkey trots look like such a fun family affair…I need to to one next year, no excuses! I’m getting excited about my race calendar too. Congrats on the 10 miler!
Can’t wait to hear what you are tackling next year!
Sounds like a great weekend! I tried to limit the treats after the actual holiday because it could become half a week of holiday treating with me at my parents house!
Yeah, I have a really hard time at my parents’ house too. Luckily we were ate home so it was a bit easier.
Congrats on you ten miler! And completing a 5k with you family. Maybe next year he will not be as miserable and start enjoying it. I hate running in the cold too. So I don’t blame him…haha.
Thanks. I think his issue was more a lack of training…
OMG how do you have your 2016 race calendar?? I don’t even know what I am doing in 2015. I’ve decided your beer is my chocolate 🙂
Oops, typo. ;o) 2016 may be pretty lame as I might go back to work and I don’t think I’ll be able to juggle everything.
Looks like a fun Thanksgiving! I look fwd to your 2015 schedule reveal 🙂 I have some races picked out but have not registered for them all. Will MCM Mama… have the MCM not he list? 🙂
Maybe. ;o)
I love that you followed up your ten mile training run with signing up for another half marathon! 🙂 Sounds like you made a lot of great choices over the holiday!
I was already planning for it, but was worried I would have trouble finishing. Now I know I can finish. ;o)
I found a local Turkey trot that I hope to do every year that we don’t travel. It was cold but really fun! I rarely post on Tuesdays but will have to try to link up with you all one of these weeks!
