1. Tuesday I met with our accountant and today I’m meeting with our financial advisor. I’m really loving being a running coach, but I’m absolutely hating the whole self-employed thing. Trying to figure out our taxes and how much I can put away for retirement is making my head spin. Thank goodness for professionals that can take care of it for me.
2. My finger is currently hovering over the registration button for Philly. I’ve heard a rumor that a whole lot of super cool chicks are running it. Yeah, I pick my races based on who is running it. ;o) And lest you be confused, I plan to run the half. I couldn’t keep up with the chicas running the full, so I might as well finish before them and cheer them in. Who else is planning to run?
3. Barefoot running is going well so far. I ran 3.5 miles with my clients yesterday while wearing my Five Fingers. My calves are really tight and sore (not in a bad way), so right now I’m running every other day. I think I need to invest in the Stick or a foam roller. Any thoughts on which is better?
Bonus: See what’s going in the mail this afternoon? Yeah, I’m finally getting my act together and mailing my stickers and Emz’ winnings. (I live two blocks from a post office, yet I can never seem to get there…)
It seems like everyone is signing up for Philly! I am on a strict no-marathon registrations until Labor Day diet. But its soooooo tempting!
A Stick is way more portable than a foam roller, but is best for calves, shins, and to some extent hammys. A foam roller is much better than a Stick for hips, IT band, and quads, but you can't toss it in your bag. We have both…
DO IT! You know you want to!!!I want to meet you!!!
I'm signing up for Philly! Waiting on the NYC lottery to decide if I'm running the full or the half though! I have a foam roller and a Tiger Tail (basically the stick but different!) I tried them both (the stick and the TT) at an Expo and liked the TT much better! It's great to have both because the TT gets to places that the foam roller can't quite work as well on…like my calves and it's also travel size!
I don't own a stick, but have used one. It came in handy after a triathlon! I do own a foam roller and LOVE it. It's amazing how much lactate acid builds up in the legs and glutes! Actually, I need to buy a new one because mine is started to look warn! Go get one!
I'd go with the Stick for calves. I've tried to ue my foam roller for my calves, and it's just awkward. And since it works with your body weight, you can't get enough pressure to really do any good. It's great for my IT band but not so much the calves.
omg I LOVE how many awesome people are signing up for Philly!! DOOOOO IT!
I am so excited for next year when I can start signing up for events again. There are so many beautiful and fun places where I want to run! Thank heaven for professionals. My husband has his masters in Tax Law…not sure what I'd do if he didn't. I guess we'd be hiring someone!
I signed up for Philly at the National Expo. You should run it! 🙂
WHAT? could it be? MCM stickers? {faints}
Push that registration button!!
I have a foam roller, but haven't used it in a few years since I haven't had issues with my IT band since I stopped running marathons.
Philly sounds fun! I have a foam roller and my dad has the Stick. I love the way that the Stick feels, especially on muscles that I can't work as easily with the roller, but a couple of running coaches that I talked to said that they think the foam roller is more effective. If they weren't so expensive, I'd get one of each.
The foam roller is tough to store … but makes a great toy. My two-year-old has used it as a mountain and set of tent poles during imagination play. She also likes to knock it over and yell KABOOM! Can you do that with the stick? I doubt it 🙂
philly..philly…philly….
The stick is great for targetting specific trouble areas like your calves and hamstrings. It is also much more portable, although they do sell smaller travel versions of the foam roller. The foam roller is great for working out large areas at once, like the entire length of your leg. You can also use it for your back. The best part about the foam roller is that it uses your body weight, so it's not as easy to wimp out when it starts to hurt… in that delightfully productive way, of course. You might laugh, but I have a foam roller and use my otherwise neglected rolling pin instead of the stick!
