1. Virginia is going through a major heatwave right now with some ridiculous humidity. I know some people will run in that kind of weather, but I’m a weather wimp. Give me 20 degrees and snowy and I’ll be out there, but 90+ degrees with matching humidity is so not happening. So, I hit the treadmill. In our non-air-conditioned basement. Let’s just say you could wring the water out of my hair afterwards.
2. Shoo doesn’t seem to mind the heat that’s killing the rest of us. He’s been biking every day, despite the heat. Thankfully our street is shady and le traffic and I can sit I’m a shady spot and watch him. Based on his current riding, two weeks after learning to ride, I see extreme biking in his future.
3. I currently have a couple of clients training for fall marathons. I’ve been in close contact this week to work their schedules around the nasty weather. As you might guess I’m more than a little thankful that I’m not training for a marathon myself. Although maybe the running would help with my reverse SAD.
I totally underestimated how difficult it was going to be to get anything done this week with the boys not in camp, so if I seem to not be blogging or commenting, umm, I’m not. I expect things to stay the same until August…
It's time for you to woman up and put your cold weather past behind you and begin embracing the heat.
It's hot here too, but at least when it's 100 out, the humidity is usually only 10% so it's tolerable.i'm sure it is way more uncomfortable with you folks with anything over 80/80 (deg/humidity).
I can't run outdoors right now either. My lungs just feel like there are bricks laying on them out there.
The humidity up here is crazy….We have run every morning at 5 am, but took today off. tomorrow am is our 16. I am with you about fall and winter. It is just so much easier to run, but I just keep pushing through. You would think maybe my weight would drop a little bit:) Stay cool!
I'm with you 100% – definitely prefer cold & snowy. This sh*t is ridiculous.
Hey I have a copy of Runner's World from 1997 with an article on running in the heat! Wait, I have one from 2011 too……… LOL
It is totally insane out there, but now that we're about halfway through the summer I've finally become acclimated. Its still not as nice as a 50 degree day, but its not as bad as it once felt!
Oh I hear you on the lack of time. Summer has snuck up on me and snatched it all away. Still like it, though!
I have just told myself with this crazy heat ~ it doesn't matter how long it takes me to complete whatever distance I am doing just that I am doing it!
OMG, I'm soooo glad I'm only training for an Oct 10 miler and have no need to push anything in the heat! :)Hope you find away to get some things done, and if you don't, don't stress!
I can only imagine how hot it must feel there. We are in Oregon and it is so different…cool, cloudy, perfect training weather (our winters are NOT good for running)…but it still feels like we are waiting for summer. just weird.
I'm with you on number one.
i recently got my rrca cert. do you have any tips on how to get started with coaching ???
I hear you on the heat! NYC has triple digits and it's just stifling! I was on the treadmill today too. I also love the cold and would rather it be five degrees than this garbage.
I wont let my daughter ride her new bike in this weather. We got it only a few days before the heat hit and she's dying to get on it. Unfortunately, with her asthma and my heat-aversion, it's just not gonna happen right now. You are a nicer momma than I am 😉
