1. Yesterday was Shoo’s Kindergarten Orientation. The parents got to sit in the library and hear about how awesome our school is, while the kids got to go on a tour of the school and play games in one of the K classrooms. It was weird being an “oldtimer” and knowing all teachers and staff and seeing all the young parents whose first child was starting K. One of the teachers commented that it’s about time Shoo actually *attended* the school, since he’s spent the last four years volunteering there LOL.
2. I’m coaching two women to their first marathons. Both are sort of local, so I do get to actually run with them on occasion. One is a blogger. She writes at Happy Hour Mama. Her blog isn’t a running blog, but a) she’s hilarious and b) she will sometimes blog about the training. She just went public about running the marathon, so go on over and give her a big hello. We’ll suck her into the “running blog” world eventually. ;o)
3. The third grade had their play “We the People” last night. Jones played an immigrant and the closest thing we could find to what they wanted was an old pair of khakis and a button up shirt. Beer Geek took one look at him and asked me “Where did he immigrate from? Canada in 1995?” The show was awesome, but the best part was one of the songs they sang – America by Neil Diamond. It was awesome, they did a great job, and now I can’t get the darned song out of my head…
Bonus: I got on the scale this morning and saw a number I haven’t seen in, umm, years. I guess stress is good for me. Is it bad that I plan to get on the scale after I run today (in this incredibly hot, sticky weather) since I may see a number I’ve never seen? And then immediately start pounding the glasses of nuun…
Wow Kinder orientation already! Is it bittersweet with the last child like it was for me?
"Canada in 1995", Hahahaha!
a few things:1. kindergarten orientation. yay! i know what you mean about being an "old timer". by the time my youngest "graduates" kindergarten at our preschool i will have spent a decade at the school. and that doesn't include the 3 years i spent there 30 years ago ;o)2. can't wait to check out happy hour mama's blog. soo exciting you are coaching these women for their first marathons!3. that is a great song and is now stuck in MY head! hee hee hee4. i have totally gotten on the scale post-run. sometimes it is crazy to see the amount of water-weight we lose on these hot summer runs.OK aaand, can you please explain the "earworm" part of your blog post?
hmm stress weight loss is probably not a good thing, but i know the odd joy that one feels from that :)kindergarten…ahh that was a fun time
I have one going to Kindergarden this year as well and it is my 4th one to go through. They ask me if I want to give the orientation at this point. I do always laught to myself at the new parents and wonder if I was like that….
Weighing yourself post-run in sweaty weather is the only way to do it.
LOL at Beer Geek's comment.
That's so awesome you are training two first time marathoning women. I cannot begin to imagine how fulfilling that must be for you.
