I’ve always loved this quote. I am not a thrill seeker (you won’t find me jumping out of planes…), but I believe that stepping outside of one’s comfort zone can lead to amazing experiences. If we always play it safe, we can’t know what life changing thing might be just around the corner. (I totally reminded myself of this when an attempt to get into crow in yoga nearly led to a face plant on a tile floor.)
Right after I wrote my post about looking for a goal, I was invited to be part of the Under Armour’s “What’s Beautiful” campaign as a sponsored member of Fitfluential. I’d been tempted before, but guess what? I was too afraid to put myself out there. Being part of the sponsored campaign pushed me to join, but my previous fear gave me my goal:
I will step outside my comfort zone: run harder, try new things, say yes when I want to say no.
For the next 8 weeks (and maybe longer), I will step outside my comfort zone. I will run some miles at a pace faster than I *think* I can. I will embrace moves in yoga that my mind says I can’t do. I will apply for some (running and non-running) opportunities and take the leap of faith if any come to me (heck, just putting myself out there has me out of my zone.)
Join me? Create a profile on the What’s Beautiful site and come up with your own goal. (Feel free to steal mine. I’m happy to share.) Then, if you want, join my Team (Team Outside the Zone).
The “winners” will come away with some pretty awesome prizes (swag bags of gear, trip to Costa Rica…), but I’ll be honest, I’m not in it for the prizes. I’m in it to come out the other side as a stronger, more confident me.
Disclosure: I am being sponsored by Under Armour through Fitfluential, but I’d have joined anyways. (If I hadn’t been, umm, intimidated…)
You and I are on the same page with this one. When I thought about my goal for this campaign, I wanted it to be something I hadn’t done. A PR wasn’t going to cut it for me. So I am determined to go completely out of the box and take on new disciplines. Off-road triathlon, here I come! *gulp*
Love this campaign!
I think we can all use a little extra push here and there.
