I woke up early (as in before 6am) this morning because I was stressed about today’s storm. I needed a to do a real grocery shopping trip, which I hadn’t done in almost two weeks. Beer Geek suggested I head to the store right then. So, I put on my big girl panties and went out in the dark on the just barely icy roads. I got there by 6:25 am and it was empty of people and full of food, so the win goes to me!
After I got home and put away the groceries, I decided I needed to try and get as much of my run in outside as possible. I found a loop that was approximately 1.5 miles long that was moderately safe (only slightly icy and not terribly heavy traffic). I did it 5 times. I was getting really strange looks from the people shoveling out their cars by the time I did it the 5th time. I was horribly slow and I had to stop many times so as not to get run over, but it totaled 8 miles. I came home, shoveled snow for an hour, fed everyone lunch, and then hit the treadmill. An hour later (with a last mile at a sub-9 pace), I’d finished 6 more on the treadmill, which left me with a total of 14 for the day! Woohoo!
I’d promised the boys I’d take them outside and PLAY with them, as opposed to shoveling while they played, so I quickly showered, walked to the store for a prescription, and then suited them up to head out. We had a snowball fight, built a fort, and generally raised a ruckus. Then we left our marks in the snow and headed in as the flakes began to fall again.
Shoo (I love that the tassel on his hat left a mark):

The car is already covered in two inches of snow and the winds are picking up. I’d be stressing about losing power, but instead I’m drinking an Anchor Christmas beer. No school for the boys tomorrow and Beer Geek’s office is closed again. Will life EVER return to normal?
I continue to be amazed by where the snow is this year. It looks like our December snow day is the only one we're going to get! Do your kids have to go later in June if you have too many snow days?
I agree with ajh…the snow is weirdly distributed! I'm hoping that doesn't mean too many March storms for us 🙂
Sounds like a productive and fun day! Enjoy the snow.
Fun! Looks like you had a great time in the snow.Nice job being creative on the run.
Wow!! Congrats on getting out there and running what you did in that weather and yucked up neighborhood. And a bigger congrats on the total mileage. You rock! Also glad you got to enjoy the snow a little bit with your boys. They'll be great memories of Snowmaggedon 2010 someday.
nice work! psyched that you got the distance in today – and yay for it not all being on the treadmill!
Awesome snow imprints, great picture! Wow, you were busy busy today! Great job getting the run in!
Awww! Cute snow prints! I can't believe you guys are getting more snow. Unbelievable!
You did the 14 mile run I totally skipped this weekend! JEALOUS. Glad you managed to get out in this! Now let's all do the MELT DANCE to make it go away.
Alas, since the grocery store report contains no mention of beer, I can only deem the trip a failure.
Good job getting the grocery shopping done! And that's really fantastic that you were able to run 8 miles outside. I haven't run outside in over two weeks! 14 for the day is phenomenal!
Woo – look at me – double posting!Case of Palo Santo Marron: I forgive you and am envious.Isn't this cool, 95% of people who read this comment are going to say, "WTF?"
Wow, lots of exercise for you yesterday between two walks to the store, 14 miles (!!!), shovelling AND playing in the snow! Way to squeeze it all in, Super Mom!
I'll take running the same 1.5mi loop over & over than the treadmill any day!Good move with the 6am grocery store run.
I am soooo jealous of what a great job you did. On Sunday I went out and did 4 miles on the slippery streets here in MD, and pulled a calf muscle. It has come back to normal (I think) but it means the only excercise I am getting is all the snow shoveling. Sigh… and I was so ahead of the game as of last week for Tall-Mel's 1000 miles.Keep safe, Gal….
you really inspire me!
What a great day. :o)
Great job getting your long double run in! Snow can not stop you!…and playing in the snow with the kiddos. Extra mom points.
Ah, first thing in the morning. Now, THAT is a smart thing to do!! It was insanity when I was there!
