Ok, what I really want is soup weather. (I love soup so much I even eat it at restaurants when it's hot out, but I don't make it unless it's cool outside.) So far, Labor Day weekend has been pretty great. We've been really busy and had some fun as a family and the boys also got to play with friends. Now we need to buckle down and get ready for the first day of school. Gulp! Saturday morning was spent doing chores and moving the contents of Jones' room down to the playroom. All that's left at this point is the lego table, dresser, desk, and his bottom bunk. Anything on a stick, drowning worms, and amazing weather
Long time readers have probably guessed from the title that the boys and I are on our annual pilgrimage to the homeland AKA smalltown Wisconsin. The boys actually came straight here with my parents from Kentucky, while I flew in on Thursday. Since no August visit to Wisconsin is not complete without a trip to the state fair, we went straight there from the airport. The highlights: You could get any food imaginable on a stick. Seriously. You could also get good craft beer. Yay! My city boys got to see a ton of animals. There are tractors nearly as big as my house! The rides were a blast. No one hurled. Running sucks
Ok, maybe running doesn't suck. Running in Virginia in the summer sucks. Yeah, that's more accurate. After a June of lots of rain and lower than average temps, suddenly summer has arrived in Virginia. Highs in the high 80s, low 90s. Humidity at 80-90%. Dew Points higher than 70*. It's like running in soup. I don't run well in soup. I have difficulty breathing. I can't cool down. My heart rate sky rockets. (And, yes, all of this is normal, according to Runners World). So, how am I surviving it? (My usual answer would be the treadmill, but mine needs repair. Boo.) Running slower - I've been leaving Garmin at home so I don't feel bad about how slow I am.
