Today I should be talking about picking up the speedwork to go for a PR at the Army 10 miler. However, based on a lot of stuff that’s going on + my major lack of mileage at this point, I’m feeling really “meh” about the race. So “meh” in fact that a DNS is pretty likely. (Why can’t I remember how crazy my Octobers always are? And that I don’t enjoy any part of the Army 10 other than the running?) There’s still a chance I’ll run, but it’ll be a last minute game change.
So, what am I doing instead? Well, remember that crazy idea of running 5 half marathons in 5 states? When I first threw the idea out there, I really didn’t think it was going to happen. I mean, it’s the week before spring break, it’s a long ways away, tickets were expensive, I didn’t think Beer Geek would be on board…
But the pieces are slowly falling into place. We’ve got kid coverage. We’ve got hotels booked. I’m *this close* to pulling the trigger on our tickets. I’ll register for the races before the price goes up on October 31 if I’ve bought tickets by then. And to say my husband is on board, well, that’s kind of an understatement. I think at this point he’d want to go even if I wasn’t running LOL.
That means it’s time to start working on the weak link. And what is that? My running.
15 miles per WEEK is not going to get me through a week with more than 65 miles. Looks like it’s time to sit down with the calendar and write a plan. Guess I need to add a goal to the four I mentioned last week (that I’m doing well with, by the way.)
5. Start slowly increasing mileage – running 3-5 miles at a time is not going to make for a happy half, much less five of them.
Hopefully my brain isn’t making promises my body can’t keep!
We’ll be in it together on this one :). As I try to increase my post-injury mileage, I’ve been struggling to find the time to fit it into our busy fall schedule (what made me think that I could train for a marathon at this time of the year?). Need to get back to where I was a year ago when running was much more of a priority for me! Good luck!
I have had to do a lot of revamping plans and approaches with running the past year. It’s good to be flexible and pick goals that keep you excited but are also realistic. Good thing planning and preparation can make pretty much any goal realistic. 😉
Sounds like you’ve got a great goal and a great plan! Good for you!! I’m sure you can do it!! Spa love!
Well, you know I’m with you on not being psyched about the ATM, but I am trying to hold myself to it for now. I already am *this close* to DNS-ing on my November Half because of a girlfriends’ weekend. I’ve got my priorities right there! Good luck with all those Halfs! I think as long as you don’t try to “race” all of them, you should be fine!
So which states? Sounds like a really fun plan if you ask me! Good luck putting it together.
Is just running the Army 10 “for fun” out of the question?
Oooh- that sounds like a fun goal! Excited to see how it goes! 🙂
You have 6 months to work on the running, plenty of time, and I’m sure you can do it!
That sounds very exciting! I did something like that here in South Africa many years ago. Was great fun so go for it!
Sometimes the best motivator is fear. Once you’ve entered the races I’m sure you’ll have all the incentive you need to put in the extra k’s.
Good luck with you game plan change! It sounds like you are making a decision that will work better for you…I hope you crush it! 🙂
silly brain!
dont you KNOW our MCMAMA can do this? 🙂
Sounds like such a fun goal – you can do it!! Which states are you planning to hit?
I love how this is coming together for you. How crazy that the husband has turned into the catalyst. When my husband shows an interest in a race, I’m definitely there (Air Force Half and Spacecoast Half), you gotta take it when you can get it, instead of dragging them along.
For March, I’m looking at a “full marathon” training plan that has double long runs on the weekend. That has to be the way to do it, right? Or what, run long F-Sa-Su to build up to it? Crazy.
