As I’ve mentioned before, I like to volunteer for Girls on the Run whenever I can. I’ve run with a young lady who’s mom was deployed. I’ve volunteered as a Start/Finish line leader a few times, and last fall I was in charge of the water stop where the water froze. I don’t have daughters, but I love what the organization does for young girls.
This year, Girls on the Run NoVa has changed the way things are being done. The last few years, the race has just gotten huge and the logistics were crazy. Two big changes are happening this year: they’ve split the schools into two races: one at Mosaic District and one in Arlington AND they’ve hired ZOOMA to put on the race. I’m really excited to see how these changes pan out.
The first race, on May 17th, is out at the Mosaic District. Some of you may remember that I was supposed to run a Cupid race out there in February. Unfortunately, a kid with strep prevented my attendance.
I went back to Mosaic to check it out later. It’s REALLY cool.
First and foremost, they have a ton of convenient parking! This is huge in this area. There’s parking attached to the Target, so you don’t even have to go outside if you are just there for Target. But if you don’t go outside, you are missing out! There are lots of cute little places to get a snack, like sweetgreen and Dolcezza. There are also lots of neat little stores, like Lou Lou and Hip to be Round. You can even get a little culture with the Angelika Film Center.
My favorite place? MOM’s. I love this store and am located about halfway between the Mosaic store and the one in Alexandria. Know what makes this one most attractive to me? The beer selection. (I know.)
Holding half of the Northern Virginia Girls on the Run race at Mosaic is awesome! It should be a great experience for the girls and a fun place to check out afterwards. If you’d like to volunteer for GOTR (something I highly recommend!), go here and sign up! I won’t be there this year as I have a race, but find I’ll be back volunteering next year.
Don’t forget to enter my RoadID Giveway! Only a few more days!
And I’m off… Somehow “leaving in a Kia Forte” doesn’t have the same impact as “Leaving on a Jet Plan” LOL
Disclaimer: Mosaic District compensated me for the race back in February. All opinions are my own.
