A few weeks ago: “I don’t think I’m going to try to get into the Marine Corps 17.75. I don’t want to run the Marine Corps Marathon next fall anyways, so why spend the money?”
A few days ago: “Well, if I happen to be home at the right time, I’ll see about registering. I know people who will want the code for the marathon.”
The night before registration: {sets alarm on computer for 11:55} “I really do like this race, so I’ll at least try to get in and then give away the MCM code.”
11:45: {sits in front of computer, with credit card ready, verifies that account login works.}
11:59: {Refresh. Refresh. REFRESH.} “C’mon already.”
Noon: {typing like a mad woman} “Crap, I have no idea how long it will take me to run 17.75K. How many miles is that anyway? 11? 12? Ahh, just going to make up a number.”
12:05: “Gah, I got kicked out. Maybe that’s a sign.”
12:06: {madly typing again} “I REALLY want to run this race.”
12:08: {deep breath}
12:08:15: {Announces on Facebook} “I got into 17.75! Now to figure out what to do with the code.”
5:45: “So, Beer Geek, I think it makes sense for me to run Marine Corps again in the fall…”
Umm…
[Tweet “Do you have Runner’s Logic? Can you justify all.the.races? #runchat”]
To be completely honest, I’m still undecided and I have until after the race on April 2nd to decide if I really want to go through a summer of hell again, but my history with MCM seems to be act first, think later.
I’m linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for Thinking Out Loud.
Haha I love this! It happens to us all and is a perfect way to describe runners and their crazy logic. 🙂
Oh yeah! Isn’t it funny how we dig in more when the cite crashes? Ha!
I threw my name into the NYCM lottery and have been questioning my sanity ever since. Not that it was a sure thing by any means, but a fall marathon when I said I wouldn’t?
I got an email this week that they needed me to confirm my credit card number. I took it as a sign, and opted out.
I’d love for you to do NYM…
Haha! I’ve never experienced it with races, but I’ve definitely experienced the crazy logic in other aspects of my life. Hard to fight those things that are rooted so deep inside us.
Ha, I’ve done that on plenty or races. It’s so hilarious!
Yep, this is me. I’m always missing the ‘early registration.’
Yeah, I’ve done that plenty of times.
Have fun. I bet that you run it.
I would like to do one of the DC races but not sure which one.
Deciding if you want to “really” run a race can be stressful! Especially when you have to sign up right away cus you know it will sell out!
Ha! I love this logic and can so relate 🙂
Totally logical…
Haha this is so me with every race! I’m injured now, but if I wasn’t I know I’d be signing up for all sorts of races like this!
