January is over. It seriously may have been 9,354,200 days long. Or just 31 of the longest days ever. My kids barely attended school even though we really didn’t have that much snow. In fact, with today’s late start, we now have an entire week where they did not go a single full day. Last week, I think they had one full day. Oy. But, since we are starting off February with another late start, I actually have time for coffee (and I’m all caught up on sleep as I’ve slept in until 8 am 4 of the last 7 days…) I’m joining Deb and Coco‘s virtual coffee date and sharing what I’d chat about over coffee.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I’m super excited to be a Skirt Sports Ambassador again this year! I love so much about this company – their message, their willingness to listen to what women need (the new 1X-3X line just launched and it is GORGEOUS), and of course, their product. My discount code has changed, so if you are needing some of the beautiful new spring collection, use code SSA322ERI for 15% off new and sale items.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I heard a rumor that the Marine Corps 50K is going to require an 11 minute pace. From what I’ve heard, it’s starting downtown, running to the start line, and then running the marathon, so you have to hit all of the marathon checkpoints. Three of the five times I’ve run MCM, I’ve barely been over an 11 minute pace, but I’m way out of practice right now. I’m guessing I have about a month and a half to figure this out…
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I finally started a comeback to running in January. It’s been a long time coming, but I’m generally pain free (standing all day in anything other than Oofos or Altras is still a recipe for a bad day). My longest run in January was just over 5 miles, but I got back in the habit of running 4-5 days a week. I’m proud of myself for taking both the pace and the mileage build slowly. I hit a 50 mile month for the first time in a while, which is a far cry from the 100 mile month streak that I had going for a while. But, baby steps…

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that January was a really stressful month for a lot of reasons. Unfortunately, my response to that is to eat too much sugar. I’m still doing the Faster Way to Fat Loss program, but no program works if you eat like crap. Thankfully, while I’m feeling a little soft around the edges from my poor food choices, I’m still rockin’ the weight workouts. I just need to work on not eating my feelings. (It hasn’t helped that I’ve spent way more time at home than usual.)

Don’t beat yourself up too much over falling off the wagon. I think you look great! I’m struggling with this odd spare tire that has popped up around my mid-section out of nowhere! I think it’s a menopause thing but man, it is annoying. UGH.
Stay warm!
I’m trying to just accept what it is and just keep working out. This getting older thing is rough, but I keep reminding myself it’s way better than the alternative.
I am happy January is over, one step closer to summer
I’m usually a winter fan. Not this year.
Ha! It is shorter. That’s true. My January was great. I wrote about my Dry January experiment that I did. It was surprisingly fun. I also ran the Miami Marathon … also fun. Not fast but yes, fun. Good luck with the 50k!
Yes, I’m happy to have January in the rear view mirror. I too haven’t been on track food wise. I blame having the kids home due to cold. We had two school days this week and yet they find a way to complain about it. Here’s to a better February!
you love MCM so much I say go for it on the 50K. I have seen you mention it a few times so hey why not!? Thanks for linking up for coffee today
Congrats on your ambassadorship! I tend to eat kinda worse when I’m stressed out too, so I feel ya! I’m pretty glad January is over with too, but it definitely felt like it was dragging in some parts of it!
January felt FOR-EV-ER, but now it’s February and I’m thinking “when did that happen??” Good to hear about the comeback, I know it’s a slow process. This summer, being present and grateful for current fitness instead of comparing myself to my pre-injury helped me see and appreciate smaller fitness gains. But it’s easier said than done. Stay warm!
I agree, January felt especially long this year…at least the final two weeks of it. I knocked out 48 miles of running, so I’m in a similar boat. I took things easy and every run was optional, so that made all of them great (in my book). I hope your aches and pains continue to be MIA. Happy February!
Welcome back to running! I have been running off and on since MCM, but my hip is still hurting. Maybe February will be the month I can finally turn things around.
Sorry January was stressful. This time of year especially, stress seems to call for brownies. Capital Weather Gang is calling for a snowy February, but as you said, at least it’s a short month! I hit 50 miles in January today, but after skipping today’s long run I’m already behind for February. 😉
I’m happy to put January in the rearview mirror – gets us just a little closer to Spring 😉
Great to hear your back to running!
