It’s been a minute since I even remembered I have a blog. Lately I’ve found myself on Instagram and Facebook more because, quite frankly, forming more than a couple of sentences at a time has been beyond me. It’s not that I’m necessarily busier than normal, it’s more that my attention span is spread over more things. The result has been one sentence updates rather than paragraphs, but I’m gonna give this whole runfessions with Marcia a try again.
I must runfess that I am over the moon excited that Marine Corps Marathon is going live! I got in right away because I’m an MCM Diplomat (more on that soon), but I would have converted my deferral to live if I had not. I think this may be the biggest sign to me that life is heading in the right direction. I can’t wait to get back on the race course for my favorite race of the year. (We’ll just pretend that I’m not crazy enough to be doing the 50k as a virtual…)

I must also runfess that, of course, my first live race back will be a relay race – and a beer related one at that. I’ve got a small team together to run the Growler Relay next weekend. What’s better than spending a day with friends running and drinking???
I must runfess that running lately has involved a lot of dodging. Dodging what, you ask? Cicadas. Brood X is here – it happens once every 17 years – and we are literally living in a cicada covered world. They fly, but not very well, so you never know when you might get hit in the head on the run. Certainly adds some adventure to running these days. (And my kid is an entomology student, so there may be a bit of an obsession in our household these days. Walks in the neighborhood seem to have a way of turning into a cicada rescue mission as my family saves them from their poor choices.)
April and May have been a roller coaster ride that I’m ready to take a break from for the summer. We are nearly done with virtual high school – I’ve never been so ready for the end of a school year. My older son is home after a weird but successful year at college. ZOOMA is ramping back up – registration opens next week! I look forward to things settling down for a bit, even though I am not excited that summer weather is coming…
Are you ready for summer? Do you have a LIVE race on the horizon?

After today’s high of 44 with a wind chill of 36, gale force wind and driving rain, I think I’m ready to welcome some heat. That said, I do not have any big races I need to throw down lots of miles for. That would suck. Great news about Marine Corps! We are waiting for Chicago to announce what their field size will be this year.

ugh I am so not happy about the cicadas! They are so annoying. I am excited to have cherry blossom on my schedule for September. I am also considering doing the Leesburg 20K but it’s so hot in August. I know it will keep me motivated and be good practice. It does feel good to have things opening up again!
All those cicadas kind of creep me out…glad none of my kids ever were fascinated with insects LOL That’s exciting news about MCM!!! If I didn’t have my Air Force 16.2 in September (deferred from last year), the temptation would have been unreal to try to get into run MCM again (hopefully without as much rain as 2019).
I applaud the cicada rescue missions, but I’m pretty sure they’re all doomed in the end, aren’t they? I like the compassion your kid is showing, though!
I want to hear a race recap of the Growler Relay! It sounds really fun- the perfect way to ease back into racing.

OMG THEY ARE TOUCHING YOU!!!
I’m very “do no harm”, but they remind me of palmetto bugs and no, ma’am!
Super excited for your love, in-person races! It’s such a great feeling!
Yikes on the cicadas!!! That is awesome on the Marine Corps Marathon. I am also happy the school year is almost over. This year was awful!

I just registered for the Parks Half Marathon in late September. I’m currently running 3-4 miles about 3 times a week. Any suggestions for training plans? My last (and only) half marathon was before kids close to a decade ago!
