Funny how when I was actually a stay at home mom and runner, I never actually stayed at home. That is so not the case anymore – I’ve literally run every day for the last 30 days without going farther than 2 miles from my house. So what kind of runfessions might I have with such a small running area. I’m joining Marcia from Marcia’s Healthy Slice to share…

I must runfess that I never thought that I’d start a run streak when I was under “stay at home” orders, but here I am. It’s actually working great for me because it helps with my mental health and it gets me moving every single day. And since I’m running most of my runs super close to home (short runs are on a quarter mile loop…), it’s nice to only have to run for 15ish minutes some days.

I will also runfess that I’ve finally started caring about my mileage again. It’s been almost 2 years since I regularly ran 20+ mile weeks and 100 miles months, but I’m within 18 miles with 5 days to go. It feels good to finally rebuild my base, pain free. Bright side of being stuck at home?
I will also runfess that I’ve gotten caught up in the “virtual” race world. But you know I never like to do things in the normal way. So, I’m running the Yeti 24 hour ultra (5 miles every 4 hours for 24 hours) this week. Then I’m running 42.2K in 42 hours next weekend. Then we have a virtual SRTT Ragnar for Mother’s Day weekend. Finally, I do actually have to run a half marathon to get my Marine Corps Historic Half medal. Pretty sure I’ll be hitting 100 miles in May!
I must also runfess that I’ve struggled to run without being near people. Thankfully? my damned cat keeps waking me up early, so I can get out before all the casual walkers. That and rainy days have allowed me to stay off the treadmill most of the time.

Finally, is it a runfession if it’s not about running? I’ve been absolutely obsessed about getting a spin bike. I considered a bunch of high end options, including Peloton, but I don’t have a history of regular bike usage. I’ve decided that I need to get a mid-level decent bike and see if I truly use it before I make a super expensive purchase. The problem? A minimum of 30-60 day wait time…
Are you still running outside? More or less than you used to? Or have you gotten bitten by the Peloton bug?
I have not been bitten by the Peloton bug (yet)…I don’t bike enough to justify the investment. I am considering upgrading to an actual road bike, though, since my mountain bike gets a little high-maintenance (on my legs) on the hilly bike path I ride regularly. My running has been pretty much unchanged, but my racing is another story. I’ve done several virtuals (some due to cancellations, some that were intended virtuals), and those have been more fun than anticipated. I had not seen the Yeti Challenge, but there’s a 4X4X48 challenge (run four miles every four hours for 48 hours LOL) that I’m considering…because, why not? 😉
I was going to say that doing short daily runs sounds like a great way to stay injury free but I then read the next paragraph with the virtual relays. I am int virtual runs but doing the shorter ones. Peloton is the best investment ever. I use it so much more than I ever thought I would. I am finally taking advantage of all the ST, yoga and stretching classes as well. Totally obsessed with it.
I’m running more than usual and loving it more than usual too. I think it’s because it’s one of the few things I can still do in this crazy time. As you know I’m blessed with pretty spacious trails, especially early.
I feel like I’m the last person resisting the call of the Peloton. A spin bike would be cool though. Thanks for linking!
You are doing some crazy virtual events — but that is normal for you! I love the Peleton app, but so far have no desire for a spin bike. MY husb offered to put my bike on a trainer so I could do the spin classes, but I’ve got enough to do with running, strength training and yoga — and weekend bike rides when the weather cooperates.
Great job on your run streak!
I am just getting back into running after an injury that’s kept me walking or biking since the end of December. I am walking/running outside, but I’m mostly staying on our circle so I can cross the street if I meet other people. I tried going on the trail briefly on Saturday morning, but it was very crowded so I turned around and ran back to our circle.
If I had the room & $$ for a Peloton, I’d absolutely get one. I know I’d use it. Alas, I have neither.
Running about the same, I guess. A bit less. I just never see the point of hard running unless I’m training for something, and I’m not. That’s me, I know others are quite different.
I hear you on having to run around everyone though! It’s thoroughly annoying. Even though I’m up early, most days it’s still so damn cold here that if I get out by 9 am that’s early, LOL!
I’ve had a Peloton bike for about 2 years and I really love it. The cycle classes are awesome but there’s also so many more class options on the app – strength training, yoga, running, walking, boot camp, etc. I have been taking some sort of Peloton class daily during this quarantine and I have loved it!
