Confession: I completely forgot about my blog this past weekend. I had intended to write a Friday Five post, but I got on the plane Thursday morning and my life became all ZOOMA all the time.
I have no regrets.
I’ve always loved being involved with races on the production side. I mean, I love to run them, but working them is even more fulfilling. I got my first taste volunteering at water stops at various races in the DC area. Then I got hired to help manage packet pick up for the DC Nike Women’s Race. Since then I’ve managed quite a few water stops at local 5Ks and at the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon – the one year that the weather allowed the race to actually happen.
At ZOOMA, I get to put together all of my experiences with races + my social media experiences + my need to keep things organized (hello, librarian here) + my extroverted side. Somehow, I’ve landed in the perfect job for me.
ZOOMA Great Lakes was absolutely gorgeous.
The weather was perfect (mostly, it did get a little warm on Saturday afternoon). The race course was lovely (I should know – I think I drove it 15 times).
The ladies were awesome – my ambassadors were so helpful and there were so many friendly ladies (I may have even converted a few to Skirt Sports!)
And I got to meet Wendy and see Marcia again. (Can you tell I’d only had 2 hours of sleep? My eyes are barely open LOL)
And who wouldn’t love a job where your boss tells you to go buy yourself a Spotted Cow while the post-race party is still going? I have never worked so hard and had so much fun at the same time.
And the best part is that I get to do it all over again at Cape Cod and Florida in just a few weeks.
(I wrote about keeping running interesting last week because I was confused and I have no comments about last week’s topic about change in schedule – unless you want to discuss that I’m not running at all right now…)

All I can say is you thrive on chaos. Good thing you’re a mom!
Sometimes volunteering is more fun than running the race. You can still feel like you are involved but not physically exhausted by the end( but I’m sure you still were in other ways). That sunrise is beautiful!
That really does sound like so much fun! It’s great that you have a job that you love
I am so happy we got to meet and my only regret is that we didn’t get to have that Spotted Cow together! I hope ZOOMA comes back to LLL next year–I really want to make a girls’ weekend out of it. Nice job and you know you’re the reason I jumped into the pool!
I volunteered for packet pickup this past weekend at our run club’s race and had so much fun!
Sounds like you have an awesome gig with ZOOMA. Congrats! Loved reading about your weekend.
It really was a gorgeous weekend. Way to pull all of that off!
Looks like a gorgeous spot to spend the weekend and a great side job to have
Oooh, what’s a spotted cow? Is that a milkshake (I think I’ve seen that somewhere….)
It does look like it was a beautiful place for a race!
Had I not been in Philly for the R’n’R 13.1, I might have tried to make it up to ZOOMA! it would be great to meet you someday 😉 Sounds like this was a great event…great job with all your many organizing skills 😉
So cool that you’ve found the perfect job. ZOOMA is in a much better place with you as part of the team! 🙂
What a gorgeous sunrise.
Glad you’ve found the perfect blend of profession and passion
