Nike Women's Half Marathon Lifetime half marathon #30 April 27, 2014 2:16:45 Temp: high 40s and windy What I wore: hat, Swirlgear short sleeve shirt, Skirt Sports Happy Girl skirt, PROCompression socks, Nike Elite arm sleeves, and my trusty Altra Intuitions It was a beautiful day. Sunny but not too warm. I should have had a good race (and looking at my time, you might think I did), but this one was rough for me and it was all my own fault. Why? I totally screwed up fueling and hydrating and by mile 8 was dizzy and seeing spots. I really need to remember to take food and drink with me when I have to leave the house an hour and a half before a race. Despite feeling awful for the last five miles, I managed to maintain fairly … [Read more...]
30 states and 30 half marathons
Unfortunately not 30 half marathons in 30 states... With the completion of the Riverboat Series, I have now finished races in 30 states! I'm really excited to hit 30 states, but, umm, I changed the rules (and convinced Beer Geek to go along with it) - I now want to do half marathons in every state. Luckily, I've got 14 states + DC already done, so it's not like I'm starting from 0. I'm not in a rush. Sure, I'd love to race in 50 states by the time I'm 50, but as long as I'm making forward progress, I'm ok with where ever I am. It's about the journey, not the goal. In other big news, I have Nike Women's Half Marathon this Sunday. Why is this big news? Nike will be my 30th lifetime half marathon!!! If you'd told me, back … [Read more...]
From Washington to Washington
After 11 hours on my feet yesterday, I'll shortly be heading back into that fray. I have moved boxes, directed people, and talked until I'm nearly hoarse. I am having so.much.fun! While I'm out having a blast and working my butt off (seriously, I got both a weight workout and cardio yesterday), I'm handing over the reins of my blog to Meg from Run.Fit.Kin for a day. Please make her feel welcome! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MCM Mama is currently working tirelessly to help thousands of runners get their race packets and have a great time at the Nike Expotique in downtown DC, so I'm filling in for her today! I'm Meg and I blog at http://RunFitKin.com where … [Read more...]
Live, Breathe, Eat, (No) Sleep Nike
I will never again take a race for granted. Especially a big one that happens in a big city. I've been working behind the scenes on the Nike Women Half Marathon for months now, but this week is Nike week! The number of people working nearly 24/7 and pieces that are being put into place is astronomical. And, yet, everyone seems to know exactly what they are doing and how to get it done. Last night was the first of many late nights and tomorrow will be the beginning of the early mornings. I'm pretty sure that by Sunday afternoon I will be crashing hard! So, if you stop by and think you hear crickets, rest assured I'm busy working to help make the event a wonderful experience for all who are here to run. Welcome to all the Nike … [Read more...]
2013 is looking kind of epic
And, no, I don't mean my son's gecko. (Yes, his name is Epic.) You already know about my crazy five marathons in five days. (And if you don't, you've obviously never been here before...) Wanna know what I did yesterday? I walked around Washington Harbour. Why is this a big deal? I was working with the group who is planning the Nike Women's Marathon Half Expotique. That's right. I'm on the Pacers Race Management team that will be running the packet pickup. Yes, this does mean I'll practically live at the Harbour for the race weekend. No, I don't know any secrets nor do I have any free entries. (I'm not in any way involved with the registration or any of the big decisions. ) My role is to make sure that all the runners get … [Read more...]
What I’m loving right now…
Ok, first and foremost the fact that the election is over. For the first time in MONTHS, my phone isn't ringing constantly. The silence is beautiful. (Seriously, living in a swing state and having both parties think you might vote for them = near constant calls. Some small part of me wanted to vote for the party that called me fewer times. ) No, what I'm really loving these days is the "halfzip". This might possibly be the best invention EVER! From late October until sometime in April, 90% of my runs will involve one of my halfzip tops. I am not a runner who feels the need to wear shorts and short sleeves once the temps drop. I just don't get that hot when I'm running (especially right now when most of my miles are run at an … [Read more...]
